“Sing to the Lord, Sing His Praise, All Ye Peoples” ~ Psalter Hymnal #96

“Great is He”

GOD RECONCILES US TO HIMSELF

Call to Confession: Celebration Hymnal #:523 (responsive reading)

Leader: Come now, and let us reason together, says the Lord.

All: Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

Leader: If we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ, His Son, cleanses us from all sin. If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

All: If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

*Song of Confession: “Give Us Clean Hands”

GOD SPEAKS TO US IN HIS WORD

Children’s Message: Pastor Chris

(Children are dismissed to Junior Church)

Scripture: Acts 10:1~48(pp. 1708)

Sermon: “The Gospel in a Multi-Cultural World” ~ Pastor Chris

Prayer

*Song of Response: “I Will Rise”

GOD SENDS US INTO HIS WORLD

Offerings: 1st: Cedar Hill Ministries; 2nd: Scholarship Fund

Offertory Prayer

*Parting Blessing

*Parting Praise: “Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus” ~ Celebration Hymnal #340

*Postlude

*You are invited to stand, if you are able.

Sermon Notes:

The Drama of Acts 10

Scene One: Acts 10:1-8 Enter Cornelius.

Scene Two: Acts 10:9-16 Peter has a strange vision.

Scene Three: Acts 10:17-23a Cornelius’ Messengers arrive at Joppa seeking Peter

Scene Four: Acts 10:23a-33 The gathering of people

Scene Five: Acts10: 34-43 Sermon by Peter confessing God’s Impartiality

Scene Six: Acts10: 44-48 Holy Spirit shows Up. “Outsiders” are welcomed in

Heart of the Story—Peter preaches what he has practiced.

“It’s God’s own truth, nothing could be plainer: God plays no favorites! (v. 34)

The vision (Scene 2/Acts 10:9-16)—The issue deeper than food. It is who do you sit with at the table as you eat your food.

Barriers—Prejudice between Jews and Gentiles=A wall the Holy Spirit knocks down for the sake of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

New Life—God invites us as we are, but responding always involves repentance, forgiveness, baptism and receiving the Spirit. (Transformation!)

What does diversity in Jesus Christ mean for Cedar Hill in 2014 and beyond?

“A Family of Christ Where You Belong.” is this a statement for those who already belong or for those who don’t yet belong? How can it include both??
