The purpose of this form is to understand your intended research, the data and access you require from Greater Manchester Police (GMP), how this information can be safeguarded, and the advantages GMP could accrue as a result of your research findings.

Submission and Commissioning Process:

All research proposal forms are submitted to the EBP board of Greater Manchester Police that meet once a month. Research proposals are discussed in detail regarding:

(a) logistical ability and lawful basis to provide the police data required;

(b) whether the research proposal correlates and can assist with current GMP strategic policing objectives;

(c) if the research proposal is significantly different from current on-going research projects involving GMP.

Upon submission of this form, you will be notified within six weeks by email of the decision of your research proposal, where it will either be declined with reasons given, or you will be invited to present your research proposal in more detail to the relevant GMP lead who will have further questions. A final decision will then be taken and you will be notified by email within two weeks.

Researchers involved in a project who will require access to GMP data may be required to be vetted by the Force Vetting Unit (FVU). In this event, the FVU will contact you directly by email to begin the vetting process
