April 2012 Board Report

Amy Vierling, Director of Differentiated Instruction

TRIAGE

·  Observations of TRIAGE teachers will continue per administrator request. Principals will also evaluate TRIAGE teachers using the TRIAGE evaluation addendums. Will assist TRIAGE teachers as needed and requested throughout the fourth quarter.

Gifted Cluster

·  Observations of gifted cluster teachers will continue per administrator request. Principals will also evaluate gifted cluster teachers using the gifted cluster classroom evaluation addendums. Will assist gifted cluster teachers as needed and requested throughout the fourth quarter.

·  All Arizona school districts are required to test three times per year for gifted services. Our final round of gifted testing will be held at each site in April and May 2012. Parents will be notified of the testing results within thirty days after their child completes the gifted testing session.

·  The final submission of differentiated learning plan for gifted students will be completed via the FUSD intranet site to the site administrator and Director of Differentiated Instruction in April. All plans will be filed in the students’ cumulative folders for future reference.

·  Gifted cluster teachers will meet in April to discuss programming and resources from the Arizona Association for Gifted and Talented Education Conference.

·  Attended the Arizona Association for Gifted and Talented Education Conference in February.

TIPS (Teacher Induction Program and Support for New K-12 Educators)- Formerly known as BEST

·  The TIPS mentors and mentees met in February to discuss programming requirements and tips. The next TIPS meetings for mentees and mentors will be held in April.

·  Contact logs and observation notes/feedback have been collected from the TIPS mentees and TIPS mentors for second semester. Goals will continue to be supported for both teacher groups have been established for second semester.

·  The end of the year celebration for the TIPS Program will be on May 3, 2011 at PBHS Banquet Room.

ALEKS (Assessment and LEarning in Knowledge Spaces) Math Curricular Software Program

·  All transfer requests and ALEKS related matters are handled via the Director of Differentiated Instruction.

·  The next ALEKS coordinator’s meeting will be held this month. Various topics will be discussed. Follow up meetings for ALEKS coordinators will continue throughout the school year. Successes with the ALEKS program have been shared and will continue to be shared throughout the district.

Professional Development/Additional Projects

·  Collaborated regarding the district improvement plan and implementation of the common core, evaluation instrument for teachers and administrators, technology, and career and college readiness. Trainings including Literacy Foundations, Common Core and Assessment trainings to be held Spring 2012, Summer 2012, New Teacher Academy 2012, and Fall 2012. A wide variety of training opportunities will be held over spring intersession in March.

·  Attended Professional Development training in Phoenix with the Arizona Department of Education. Will attend one final session in May 2012.
