Flax Bourton C.E.V.C. Primary School

Friday 26th May 2017

Dear Parents,

We are delighted to tell you that Key Stage 2 has started working on our musical production, “Pirates of the Curry Bean”.

Performance dates

On Monday 10th July at 1:45pm we will do a dress rehearsal for the rest of the school (parents are welcome to join us then if neither of the other times is convenient). The “polished” performances will be on Tuesday 11th July at 1:45pm and Wednesday 12th July at 7pm. Every single child in Oak and Beech will be singing, speaking and/or dancing as well as helping to make props/costumes/scenery. We invite parents and friends to join us for one of the performances and obviously we are hoping that all the children in Oak and Beech will be there for all performances. Details about tickets to follow but our expectation is that every KS2 family will be issued with 3 tickets for the main evening performance on Wednesday 12th July at 7pm.

COSTUMES for Year 6

In previous years we have tried to source all costumes within school, but this year I think it might be easier to start by asking Year 6 parents to see if they can borrow and/or find cheap costumes online for the main Year 6 parts. If you can’t find something suitable, do please come and let us know: we do have some costumes left from 4 years ago when we last performed this.

HMS Crunchy Frog - All Year 5 sailors will be provided with a deep blue polo shirt and a white neck tie. Please wear school (or plain dark) trousers. If you have any other items that would fit with the sailor look – please let us know e.g. sailor’s hat

Curry Bean - All Year 5 pirates will be provided with a red polo shirt. Please wear school (or plain dark) trousers. If you have an eye patch, bandana and/or neckerchief as well that would be great, but not essential.

We would like all children to bring in their intended costume on a named hanger on Wednesday 5th July and then keep it in school, ready for the performances.

LEARNING LINES: there is no new Oak homework for ½ term

The script can now be accessed on the school website (Oak’s webpage), where you will be asked for a password, which is redbeard As we work on the staging of the play for our school, we will make slight adjustments to the original script. There are several ‘jokes’/examples of wordplay in the script – some of these are not so obvious to the children. It would be great if an adult could work on the lines with the children and explain the humour in order to help them deliver the line in the right way.

I would like the children to have learned their lines by Thursday 8th June. In order to facilitate this, there is no new Oak homework for ½ term: just the Mayan mask to work on. (Mayan mask due in Thursday 15th June.)

If you have any queries about the above please pop in to see me.

Many thanks for your support

Jo Smith
