Feasibility Assessment of the Pleasance in preparation for Strategic Assessment Gateway 0

The site forms part of the University’s approved Holyrood/Pleasance Masterplan and Estates and Buildings, in conjunction with EUSA, have reviewed the accommodation currently managed by EUSA. As a result of this initial assessment, it is proposed that a feasibility study be prepared which investigates how this space can be developed to enable the University and EUSA to share and get best use from the accommodation. Currently the accommodation is largely used by EUSA for societies and club meeting areas. This use is generally in the evenings. The possibility of the accommodation being available to the University as seminar/teaching space should be investigated as well as any potential overlap with the recently extended Centre for Sport and Exercise. Theatre and Festival provision will also be reviewed.

It is recommended that a feasibility study is carried out with a view to bringing forward a Strategic Assessment Gateway 0 paper to EC in due course. Fees in connection with this will be in the order of £25,000.

In addition it is the intention to bring forward a small works bid for an initial phase of works as an opportunity in the 2011/12 small works programme.

EC is invited to endorse the recommendation that a feasibility study is carried out and that £25K is made available, funded from CAC.
