Examination Paper Template Guidelines

1.  Enter the ‘Module Code’ and ‘Module Title’ into the appropriate fields (N.B some examination papers are shared by more than one module so each code / title should be recorded)

2.  Select the appropriate ‘Assessment Sitting’ i.e. MAIN or RESIT, from the drop down list

3.  Select the ‘Month Examination Paper is to be sat’ from the drop down list

4.  Select the ‘Duration of Examination’ from the drop down list

Please note - Any reading time should be contained within the overall duration of the examination and not as additional time. Should it be felt that the duration of the examination should be longer the module will need to be formally reviewed and re-validated. (and the duration of the examination reconfirmed).

5.  In the section headed ‘The following items are provided to candidates’ it states that an Examination answer booklet is provided. Please detail any supplementary sheets that will be provided to candidates if necessary. This will include any specialised materials/books and any supplementary sheets (case studies etc)

6.  The Instructions to Candidate will need changing in the following instances:

o  where calculators are permitted, click on the circle in the ‘Allowed’ column

o  if the examination paper is not permitted to be removed from the venue click on the circle in the ‘Not Allowed’ column

o  if any literature is permitted to be used in the examination click on the circle in the ‘Allowed’ column and specify details in the text box below.

7.  Select the Number of Questions the paper contains from the drop down list

8.  Select the Number of Questions the candidates are required to answer from the drop down list

9.  If there are any other instructions candidates require please specify these (e.g. how many questions to answer from different sections)

10.  Select the Campus Examination to be sat at from the drop down list.

11.  If the examination is being sat at a Partner College(s) insert the name of the college(s) as applicable.

12.  Select the Examination paper version number from the drop down list – if it is the first copy of the paper to be submitted to the Assessment and Awards Office then select 1. If any amendments have been to the paper and another copy has to be submitted then select 2 etc. Please remember to do this – it ensures the correct version of the examination paper is sat by the student.

The page numbers will automatically update.

Question Formatting

The questions need to be displayed as page 2 of the template along with the number of marks each question carries. To change the style of text required select the appropriate style form the ‘Home’ tab (use the down arrows on the right of the styles to bring up the whole list)

The following styles should be used -

·  Body text – Use style Normal (Font – Arial, Size 11)

·  Section Headers – Use style Section (Font – Ariel, Size 14, Bold )

·  Question header – Use style Question (Font – Ariel, Size 11, Bold)

·  Marks – Use style marks (Font – Ariel, Size 11, Bold)

·  The page margins must be set as ‘Normal’ (this is 2.54cm all around)

The examination paper must be finished with ‘END OF EXAMINATION’

Documents should be saved with the naming convention – Module code, exam session, academic year (e.g.: BE2S102_Main_2015-16)
