DRAFT INFORMATION NOTE FOR PARTICIPANTS

1. WORKSHOP Venue:

The “Stakeholders Workshop to implement a Pilot on Impact-based Forecasting and Risk-based Warnings” will be held at the ParkRoyal Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar, from 28 to 30September 2015.

2. Registration of Participants:

Registration of participants will take place at the ParkRoyal Hotel at 0900 hours on the morning of 28 September 2015. Participants are kindly requested to collect their identification badges from the Local Secretariat at the time of registration.

3. Working Language:

The working language of the training workshop will be English.

4. Hotel Information:

Bookings have been made at the ParkRoyal Hotel, Nay Pyi Taw for all participants and experts at a preferred rate, breakfast inclusive.

5. visa and passport Requirements:

All participants who require a valid visa for admission to Myanmar and who do not currently have one must contact the contact persons from the Local Organizing Committee. To apply for a visa, or if you have questions, please contact the Myanmar Ministry of Foreign Affairs or your nearest Myanmar embassy.

Experts requiring an invitation letter for visa purposes may request, either by the Local Organizing Committee (see no. 11 below).

6. Transportation:

The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology, Myanmar has made arrangements for airport transfers to ParkRoyal Hotel. Please send your arrival details (Date, flight number and expected time of arrival to the Local Organizing Committee.

7. Currency Exchange, CREDIT CARDS and Rate Information:

The currency used in Myanmar is the Kyat (pronounced “chat”) and is abbreviated as MMK. The current approximate conversion rate with some of the main currencies, as of 04.09.2015, is as follows:

It is possible to use U.S. dollars or credit cards in Myanmar. It should be noted that,
as with many countries, exchange rates may vary slightly at stores and hotels. Daily exchange rate information can be obtained from the local banks. Euros are also accepted at some hotels and restaurants, though not as widely accepted as U.S. Dollars.

Major credit cards are accepted in many places in Myanmar. ATMs can be found readily available in Nay Pyi Taw in the vicinity where the ParkRoyal Hotel is located, and at the airport. The biggest providers of compatible ATMs are KBZ (Kanbawza Bank), CB (Co-operative) Bank. Others include AGD Bank and AYA Bank. Money can also be changed at banks in Nay Pyi Taw and at the airport.

8. Climate INFORMATION:

The Air Temperature is 28°C, Maximum Air Temperature 32°C and Minimum at night is around 24°C. Precipitation further decreases as we enter the drier period of the year.

9. Electricity:

Throughout Myanmar the voltage is 220-240 volts AC 50 Hz. Myanmar uses the British standard square three-pin, 13 amp sharp electric plug. Visitors from countries other than the United Kingdom are advised to bring their own universal adaptors.

10. Time:

Myanmar is +06:30 hours ahead of GMT.
