It has been particularly active in markets outside Northern Ireland and I am aware that gritstone from our local quarries is in high demand – being used in road projects from Hong Kong to Rotterdam. Equally, the Quarry Products Association has maintained strong channels of communication more locally. It is to QPANI’s credit that it has maintained a constructive approach over a long period with Government and others in the supply chain. QPANI has particularly strong links with the Department for Infrastructure, particularly on the Roads side which accounts for a large proportion of the work of member companies. It is important that we have a competitive and sustainable construction sector. However, too much competition for Government contracts can drive the wrong behaviour. The practice of sub-economic tendering remains a real concern for Government and the construction industry. Following consultation with the Construction Industry
