The collection consists of correspondence between Harry Kaufman and his family, but mostly with people in the world of classical music. UCLA Catalog Record ID UCLA Catalog Record ID: 1972962 Biography Kaufman was born on September 6, 1894 in New York City; he was a pianist and music teacher at the Curtis Institute of Music, Philadelphia; for 17 years he headed the Department of Accompanying, during the time his former piano teacher Joseph Hofman was director of the Institute; he had a career as a piano soloist with orchestras in the U.S. and Europe, and accompanied such artists as Joseph Szigeti, Toscha Seidel, Nathan Milstein, George London, William Primrose, and others; he died on Aug. 21, 1961. Scope and Content Collection consists of correspondence between Harry Kaufman and his family, but mostly with people in the world of classical music. Also contains photographs of musical personalities, programs, clippings, scrapbooks, 34 issues of Overtones, personal financial material, and a copy of Great Ballet Prints of the Romantic Era by Parmenia Migel (c. 1981).
