DIGITAL PAINTING Instructor: TJ Chaney Room: 159 Digital Painting will provide the basic knowledge necessary to operate a computer and to use Adobe Photoshop software as a painting tool. Students will explore professional artists and copy their techniques for creating digital art. The lessons will focus on how to use the different tools inside Photoshop. They will start gradual and increase in difficulty and expected creativity as the class as the year progresses. COURSE REQUIREMENTS Students must have completed Art I to take this class. You will also be required to have a set of earphones or ear buds daily. We will be using video tutorials to learn the software and moving at individual paces. COURSE OBJECTIVES The students will: ● Learn the basic painting tools of the Adobe Photoshop software ● Become familiar with the uses of image manipulation within popular culture ● Learn the practices performed by working commercial artists EVALUATION The grade scale is in you student handbook For the 9 week grading period the following will be evaluated and averaged together 1. Tutorials 2. Class projects 3. Homework 4. Participation (daily) EVALUATION OF THE PROJECTS ARE BASED ON: 1. The goals of the assignment 2. Following directions 3. Craftsmanship, correct use of the tools in Adobe Photoshop 4. Artistic merit (remember this is an Art class and Art 1 knowledge will be transferred to this class) TO EARN A GRADE 1. NO grades are earned on incomplete assignments. 2. Work that is not turned in ONE week past the original due date will be recorded as a zero percent. CLASSROOM PROCEDURES EXPECTATIONS 1. Be on time and prepared for class. Do your work daily. 2. Use the restroom before or after class. 3. Only use the computer programs you are instructed to use. Internet is off limits unless otherwise instructed. 4. Log off the computers at the end of each class. 5. Keep up with the daily syllabus. I will hold you responsible for materials due according to the syllabus. 6. Save your work in your personal directory often. We will be clearing the server each 9 weeks. I will provide you with a portable drive device to move your work. Any work neglected to be moved will be erased from the server. 7. All assignments will be turned in to a drop box. You are responsible for saving final projects in the correct drop box. Work not turned into the drop box on the due date is considered late. Regardless if you completed the assignment and forgot to copy it to the drop box. WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM ME 1. To have a goal or responsibility daily to accomplish 2. I will provide you with substantial time and opportunity to achieve 3. I will challenge your skills in creativity 4. I will enforce my expectations of you and the rules in the student handbook 5. I will hold you responsible for making up work on your time .
