Ltd., Wollongong (1968-71) 3. Courses Taught I taught the courses below in the last six years via a residential format at the Wheaton College Graduate School campus unless otherwise indicated. The masters’ program in intercultural studies, however, introduced a modular delivery system (Spring 2012), followed by an online pedagogy (Spring 2017), and finally a hybrid method of teaching (Fall 2017). Consequently, because of these innovations in delivery systems I redesigned the curriculum of INTR 514 Spiritual and Professional Formation, INTR 521 Historical Foundations, and INTR 531 Theological Foundations. INTR 504/CE 459/CFM 694 Perspectives in Global Outreach The course is an integrated introductory survey of the crucial issues in missions from the perspectives of theology, history, world religions, cultural anthropology, and intercultural studies. The student has an opportunity to explore his or her relevant cross-cultural concerns within the context of life and ministry. 2 credits. Gallagher INTR 514 Spiritual Formation and Witness The course presents spiritual formation as an intentional emphasis of the church whereby we seek to facilitate and cooperate with the work of the Holy Spirit primarily through cultivating a climate of discipleship, encouraging spiritual practices that make us more open and responsive to the Holy Spirit’s activity, and developing resources that address the varying needs of persons at different places in their faith pilgrimage. 2 credits. Taught: Spring 2012 (January modular), Spring 2012 (January modular in Chiang Mai, Thailand), Spring 2013 (January modular), Spring 2014 (January modular), & Spring 2015 (January modular). INTR 514 Spiritual and Professional Formation The purpose of the course is to explore the biblical foundations and practical implications of spiritual and professional development. Based on Jesus’ model of leadership development (Luke 2:52), the course seeks to encourage healthy lifestyle rhythms in the physical, intellectual, social, and spiritual dimensions. During the course, the student has the opportunity to discover her or his own development and the implications that emerge from the study. 4 credits. Taught: Spring 2016 (January modular), Fall 2016 (modular), & Fall 2017 (hybrid). INTR 521 Historical Foundations The purpose of this course is to explore key persons and movements in the expansion of the Christian church from early monasticism, Church of the East, and the Celtic Church, to Puritanism, Pietism, Moravianism, and Methodism. Our missiological reinterpretation of church history will focus on the dynamics of the expansion such as the Spirit’s renewal, structure of mission, role of leadership, and implications for contemporary strategies of mission. 2 credits. Taught: Fall 2011, Fall 2012, Summer 2013 (modular), Fall 2013, Fall 2014, Spring 2016 (modular), & Spring 2017 (online). INTR 531 Theological Foundations Using the principles of cross-cultural biblical hermeneutics, the course explores God’s mission from the Philistines of Abraham and David’s time to Jesus’ ministry among the marginalized in New Testament Palestine. This process develops an appreciation of theological reflection in Christian community that will affect the student’s missionary vocation. 2 credits. Taught: Fall 2011, Spring 2012, Summer 2012 (modular), Fall 2012, Spring 2013, Summer 2013 (modular), Fall 2013, Spring 2014, Fall 2014, Spring 2016 (modular), Spring 2016, Spring 2017, Spring 2017 (online), & Summer 2017 (modular). INTR 535 Holy Spirit and Mission The purpose of the course is to explore the dynamics of the work of the Holy Spirit and mission in relation to the following dimensions: personal, biblical, historical, cultural, contextual, and functional. Students are encouraged to explore their ministry/mission philosophy regarding the role of the Spirit of God for their mission context. 4 credits. Gallagher INTR 694 Missiology Mentoring Seminar The missiology mentoring seminar discusses key missiological essays of Landmark Essays in World Christianity and Mission; and approaches the topics of Life Scheduling and Finishing Strong (definitions, types, barriers, and helps) in relation to contemporary global ministry. 2 & 4 credits. Taught: Spring 2012. 4. Sabbatical Leaves I received my first sabbatical leave from Wheaton College Graduate School in the spring of 2007. During this period I researched and wrote for two books (Encountering Missions History [Baker Academic] and Landmark Essays in Mission and World Christianity [Orbis Books]); and published four peer-reviewed journal articles, 14 encyclopedia entries, four book reviews, and two popular essays. In the spring of 2018, I directed my second sabbatical leave from Wheaton College Graduate School. During this period I researched and wrote for four books (Breaking through the Boundaries [Orbis Books], Acts of the Apostles [Urban Loft], Mission in the Sixteenth Century [Wipf and Stock], and Readings in Global Christianity [Cascade Books]); and published a chapter, encyclopedia article, book review, and peer-reviewed chapter. In addition, I conducted a number of conferences, lectures, retreats, and seminars in five countries: “The Mission of God in Luke and Acts” Ph.D. modular (Assemblies of God Theological Seminary, Springfield, MO, United States); “Mission in Acts” D.Min. modular, A.C.
