No massive influx of Malaysians from Singapore Astro Awani 21 April 2020 Rahimah Abdullah, PUTRAJAYA: Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has denied the massive influx of Malaysians from Singapore. He said the average entry of Malaysians from the republic was only about 400 people every day for the past four days. However, he said the government was always prepared for the possibility of mass influx. "Many are worried about our people returning from Singapore. According to a report from the Immigration Department of Malaysia, the mass entry has not yet taken place. "For the past four days, the average entry of our people from Singapore has just been 400 people. For example, on April 18, there were 648 people; April 17 (246); April 18 (245); April 19 (604) and April 20 (297 people)," he said at a press conference here on Tuesday. In the meantime, Ismail Sabri said individuals returning to the country through the Johor entry point had to be quarantined at the quarantine centres as previously announced. "To date, the government has provided 6,000 rooms for compulsory quarantine purposes in 22 quarantine centres. "An additional 4,000 rooms are still in the process, with a total of 10,000 rooms available," he added. Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri said a Cabinet meeting had also decided to limit the operations of the Immigration Department and related agencies at the entrance of the Sultan Iskandar Building (Johor Bridge) and the Sultan Abu Bakar Complex (Second Link). The operating hours at the Sultan Iskandar Building will be shortened from 24 hours earlier to 7 am to 7 pm for the in and out movement of people and commercial vehicles such as trucks and cargo while for the Sultan Abu Bakar Complex, the operation runs as normal for 24 hours. "This is done so that emergency cases and medical needs are not affected," he added. He said the change in operation hours will go into effect on April 24. © 2020 Astro Awani Network Sdn. Bhd.
