How to Enable Flash on Your Web Browser Many of the online courses in the UC Learning Center use the Adobe Flash Player. Locate your web browser from the list below for instructions on how to enable flash. Internet Explorer Google Chrome Mozilla Firefox Mac Safari Internet Explorer 1. Launch your Internet Explorer web browser. 2. Click the Tools icon in the upper-right corner of Internet Explorer. (The icon looks like a gear.) 3. In the pop-up menu that appears, click Manage Add-ons. 1 4. In the dialogue box that appears, select Toolbars and Extensions. 5. In the list of Add-ons, look for “Shockwave Flash Object” (another name for Flash Player). In the Status column, check to see whether Shockwave Flash Object is Disabled. If it is disabled, click the row for Shockwave Flash Object to select it. 2 6. In the lower-right corner of the Manage Add-ons dialog box, click Enable. 7. Close the Manage Add-ons dialog box. Type the following in the URL field of a Chrome browser tab: chrome://settings/content/flash 2. On the Settings screen, make sure Flash is enabled by checking the Ask first (recommended) option. 3 3. Attempt to launch the course again. Mozilla Firefox Beginning with Firefox 52, the browser will not activate plugins (e.g. Flash Player) by default. Instead, Firefox lets you choose whether to allow a plugin to run on a website. 1. Click the Run Adobe Flash icon. If you do not see this icon then you don’t have Adobe Flash installed on your computer. You will have to launch the training using a different web browser. 2. A dialogue box will appear prompting you with the option to Allow or Don’t Allow the options. Click on Allow to activate Flash only for a single visit. To automatically activate Flash for all future visits to UC Learning Center courses, check the Remember this decision checkbox. 4 3. After you active and allow the plugin, the missing content will load normally. If it doesn’t, click the reload button in the toolbar to reload the page and try again. To display the version number, choose Safari > About Safari. If your Safari version is 11.0 or later, follow the steps in this guide. If your Safari version is 10.0 or later, follow the steps in For Mac OS X 10.10. If your Safari version is earlier than 10.0, follow the steps mentioned in For Mac OS X 10.8 and 10.9, or For Mac OS X 10.6 and 10.7. 1. Open Safari, and choose Safari > Preferences. 2. Click the Websites tab and scroll down to the Plug-ins section. Locate the Adobe Flash Player entry. 5 3. Click the check box to enable Flash Player. 4. Select a setting to use for Flash Player when you visit other sites. 6 5. You can configure Flash for individual websites (domains). Select a website listed in this window, and choose Ask, Off, or On. 6. Exit Preferences after you finish configuring Flash Player.
