WAIMAK UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB SENIOR MATCH DAY PROGRAM Saturday 2nd June 2018 www.waimakunited.org.nz COMMENTS FROM THE CLUB Last Saturday Kendall Park was host to Waimak United Football Open Club Day. We had our in house teams who usually play at Maria Andrews play at Kendall Park. Our Fun Football and First Kicks enjoyed playing their games on the turf, while our Mini Football teams played on the grass pitches. After their games our Mini Maks were presented with balls, kindly sponsored by Hellers, as well as Willowbank player of the day vouchers. The majority of our Mainland teams had home games, however there was not enough pitches to host all our teams and a 6 teams had away games in Christchurch, including our CCL Reserves who played against Halswell United at Halswell Domain and our CWC team who played at Foster Park against Selwyn United FC. We were very fortunate the rain cleared and we had a fine day, however a little muddy it did not deter anyone! AMI kindly ran a sausage sizzle and brought along their yellow fire truck for kids to play in, which was a great hit. Kaiapoi North School lent us their candy floss machine and their chocolate wheel and the chocolate was kindly donated by Countdown Rangiora. We had generous Waimak members who brought along baking for our bake sale, second hand uniforms for the stall and grocery items for our raffle. The kids also got to have fun playing on the inflatable pitch and bouncy castle, which was a great inclusion to our festivities. It was great to have our senior players walk around, watch games and support our younger players. Our main purpose for the Club day was to unite the club, bring our staff, board members, coaches and our Waimak community together and to welcome the general public along to see our club in action. We were also fortunate to raise funds for the club. We would like to say thank you to everyone for their help and support, and from the general feedback it was a great day had by all! CLUB DAY PHOTOS WAIMAK UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB WOMEN’S PREMIER LEAGUE VS UNIVERSITIES 12.30PM KICK OFF- ILAM FIELDS Coaches Comments This weekend we come up against Universities side, who have strengthened in key positions since our last meeting, where both sides took a share of the points. Last weekend we struggled to retain possession for long periods of the game and while we put together some good phases of play, the final ball or composition in front of goal was lacking. This weekend the girls will need to stay switched on for the entire match, where in the past 3 matches small losses of concentration has cost us at both ends of the pitch. Composure, concentration and control of the game will be key for us in this match against Uni. We are coming off a tough game against the league's 2nd place team Western, who won the game 3-0. There were some positives to take from the game and the team will need to lift the intensity to get to the level we want to be at and to take home 3 much needed points. Burwood themselves are performing well this season and come into the game above us in the table. We will welcome back 2 or 3 key players this week which will hopefully give the team a lift. Hope to see all the Waimak faithful down to support the lads. Thanks Adam.
