Bayreuth is almost equidistant from the Munich and Frankfurt a.M. airports. Map of Germany (Possible Airport Destinations in Green) 3 2 Railway The journey from the airport to the University will require you to take a train. 2.1 From Nuremberg to Bayreuth Once you reach the Nuremberg Airport, you can proceed to the main Nuremberg station by taking the metro. The line U2 to “Nürnberg Hauptbahnhof” (German for: Nuremberg central train station) is the train that you need to board. At the “Nürnberg Hauptbahnhof” station, you will have to disembark and take a regional express from here to Bayreuth. This last train ride will approximately take between 1 and 1.5 hours. You will have to leave the train at “Bayreuth Hauptbahnhof” station, which is the main train station in Bayreuth and also the only stop in Bayreuth. Note, that the German word “Hauptbahnhof” sometimes is abbreviated by “HBF”. 2.2 From Munich to Bayreuth Once you reach the Munich Airport, you can take a train to get to the city center of Munich, where you will have to board a train headed to Nuremberg. You will have to take the train to “München Hauptbahnhof” (central train station). From there, you will be able to take another train connection that directly brings you to “Nürnberg Hauptbahnhof” (central train station in Nuremberg). It will take you between 1 and 1.5 hours to get to Nuremberg from the main train station in Munich. Once in Nuremberg, you will can proceed to Bayreuth by following the steps listed above (section 2.1). 2.3 From Frankfurt to Bayreuth Once you reach the Frankfurt a.M. Airport, you need to take the train to get to “Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof” (central train station Frankfurt), from where you can catch a direct train to Nuremberg. Depending on the train, it will take you approximately 2 – 2.5 hours to get to “Nürnberg Hauptbahnhof” (central train station in Nuremberg). Once in Nuremberg, you can proceed to Bayreuth by following the steps listed above (section 2.1). 4 3 To the Hotel “Lohmühle” You can decide whether to go by train or by car from the airport to the hotel. If you take the train from the airport to Bayreuth please follow the descriptions in chapter 2. The next sections will show you how you get to the hotel “Lohmühle” by car or starting at the train station of Bayreuth by foot, bus or cap. Note, that the German word “Hauptbahnhof” (for train station) sometimes is abbreviated by “HBF”. 3.1 By car 3.1.1 Coming from Munich/Berlin Leave the motorway A9 (Munich-Berlin) either at the exit 41 "Bayreuth-Nord" or at the exit 42 "Bayreuth" and follow then simply the brown signs "Hotels Innenstadt" and finally the signs "Zur Lohmühle". 3.1.2 Coming from Bamberg/Kulmbach Travel on the motorway A70 until it merges with the motorway A9 (Berlin-Munich). Continue on the motorway A9 in direction of Nuremberg. Leave the motorway either at the exit 41 "Bayreuth-Nord" or at the exit 42 "Bayreuth" and follow then simply the brown signs "Hotels Innenstadt" and finally the signs "Zur Lohmühle". 3.2 From the Train Station Bayreuth 3.2.1 By Foot Distances are very short in Bayreuth it takes less than 30 minutes to walk from the train station to the hotel “Lohmühle”. On the map bellow you have to follow the dotted blue line for walking to the hotel. 5 3.2.2 By Bus There are a lot of buses starting at the train station to the “ZOH”. After using one of them please leave at the stop “ZOH” (Abbreviation for: Zentrale Onmibus Haltestelle = Central bus station) and follow the dotted blue line bellow to walk to the hotel “Lohmühle”. 3.2.3 By Cab In front of the train station Bayreuth are usually a lot of cabs available. Please ask the driver to drop you off at the “Hotel Lohmühle”. The fare will be approximately 10 €. 6 4 From Bayreuth Train Station to the University of Bayreuth 4.1 By Foot Distances in Bayreuth are short, and from the train station to the University it takes less than 40 minutes by foot. The dotted blue line on the map below shows the direction to the University. Once you reach the University, you should use the map at chapter 6 of this document. 7 4.2 By Bus There is a bus route from the train station to the University. The bus stop is right in front of the train station. You will need to change the bus line once to get to the University. First, you take bus line 302 (direction: Sankt Johannis) or 303 (direction: Reha-Klinik) or 309 (direction: Meyernberg Süd) to ZOH, Bayreuth. This first bus ride will take about 5 minutes. Then, at the station “ZOH” (Abbreviation for “Zentrale Omnibus Haltestelle”), you change lines and take the bus line 304 (direction: Mensa) or 306 (direction: Geowissenschaften). You will have to leave the bus at the station “Mensa”, which is located at the center of the University of Bayreuth. 4.3 By Cab Usually, there are cabs available right in front of the train station as well. If you would like to take a cab, the fare will be approximately 10 €. Ask the driver to drop you off at the “Faculty of Law and Economics at Bayreuth University”. In German: “Rechts- und Wirtschaftswissenschaftliche Fakultät der Universität Bayreuth”. That is the building where the workshop takes place. Insight the building, follow the signs to room S.64 to reach the venue. 8 5 From the Hotel “Lohmühle” to the Venue Distances in Bayreuth are very short. You can decide whether to walk to the venue or take the bus or a cab. The workshop will take place at the Faculty of Economics, Business and Law at the campus of the University Bayreuth. Once you reach the University please follow the map at chapter 6. 5.1 By Foot It takes less than 30 minutes to walk to the University of Bayreuth.
