Monday ……………………...………..…...……School Banking Tuesday ………………………………………….Prep-Year 2 Under 8’s Day at Crawford SS Friday ……………………………….….……….Year 4-6 Winter Sports Carnival in Kingaroy As we come to the end of Week 5, we also mark the halfway point for Term 2. This first half certainly proved to be busy and the second is set to be just as packed with great things for our students and our whole school community. This week our students participated in National Simultaneous Storytime with the whole school coming together to read Philip Bunting’s book Give me some Space! It was wonderful to see everyone engaged in this book as Mrs Stead shared it with them and it was special to think that we were participating in this reading at the same time as other young people all around our nation. Many of our classes also engaged in some additional learning about Space, so if your little one came home with some interesting facts about the planets, you know where it came from! Today our Year 4 to 6 students have completed their final Winter Carnival practice session with students from the other Kingaroy small schools. Next Friday the Winter Carnival will take place with students competing in their chosen sport. A reminder to parents, if you haven’t yet paid for the bus, could you please see Jenny in the office to finalise. Next week our youngest students, those in Prep to Year 2, will attend the Kingaroy Small Schools Cluster Under 8’s Day. This event is being held at Crawford State School on Tuesday morning and there are many exciting activities planned by all of the schools. Under 8’s is always such a great day of celebrating the wonder and magic of being a little person. Thank you to parents for returning your permission forms and tuckshop orders with such a quick turnaround. We hope our students (and Mrs Stead, Miss Zancola and Mrs Ritchie) have a wonderful time! Over the next few weeks we also have a number of guests visiting our school and our students. On the 3rd of June (Week 7) the Arts Performance Didjeribone will be performed at Coolabunia. Tjupurru will delight us all with the sounds of the didjeribone – an instrument that is a cross between a didgeridoo and a trombone. He will also share with us stories and the language of his ancestors the Djabera Djabera people from the Kimberly region of WA. We are looking forward to this event. In Week 8 we will be visited by Victoria Byrnes from The Root Cause. For the next twelve months, Coolabunia SS has the privilege of working with The Root Cause on the Children’s Health Program (please see the information sheet included with this week’s newsletter). In Week 8, Victoria will visit our school and work with our staff and students, delivering professional development and an entertaining and engaging Mad Food Science presentation for students that promotes the benefits of healthy eating. Victoria will also present an evening session for all parents, grandparents, carers and family members on Tuesday 8th June 5-6pm. Mark this date in your calendar! More information about these events will be sent home shortly. In Week 8 we will also be visited by Bravehearts on Friday the 11th of June who will deliver their Ditto Program to our Prep to Year 3 students. This is a children’s safety presentation and information has been sent home to parents regarding content and show time. All parents are invited to attend and are very much encouraged to join us. Your presence will enable you to hear the personal safety messages that are delivered and reinforce a consistent message and set of strategies in the home. Finally, on Saturday, I emailed all parents regarding after school care options at Coolabunia State School. This is something that I have been working on for the past twelve months since starting at our school. I have certainly become aware that the lack of after school options is difficult for our parents and is the major reason that families either leave or choose not to enrol at our wonderful school. In consultations with Central Office in Brisbane, I have developed a survey to gauge if an after school care facility would be viable at Coolabunia State School. I need all families to respond to this survey and encourage you to do so if you haven’t already. The survey link (which can also be found in my email) is https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/MXS7PDJ I will also resend my original email to all parents again at the end of this week. If our survey results meet a certain threshold, then Brisbane will start a tender process for after school care. Fingers crossed! I hope you all have an enjoyable weekend and I look forward to seeing you all for a fantastic Week 6 at Coolabunia! Lisa Religious Instruction Religious Instruction will commence for students in Years 1-2 today and then Years 3-6 on Friday 4th June. Lessons will be held on Friday at 1.50pm for half an hour. Consenting families were sent home a note last week indicating if they need to pay the $6 fee for the R/I workbook or not. There are a number of families who have not returned this form and payment yet. This payment can only be made through Flexischools or cash, as it is a P&C account. Please attend to this payment promptly. Any child not participating in R/I will receive other instruction in a separate location during the time R/ I is held. At any time, parents may provide written instruction to the school to change their preference for their child to participate in, or be withdrawn from R/I.
