The programme also includes Bartók’s Contrasts, strongly flavoured by Hungarian and Romanian folk melodies. The American-born, British-based pianist moved to London in his late teens to study with the legendary Dame Myra Hess, and soon established his reputation as an interpreter of tremendous integrity and vision. He joins us to mark his 75th birthday, celebrated on 17 October, crowning his recital with Schubert’s inexhaustible final sonata and joining forces with Martha Argerich in two beguiling works for piano duo.
