Club members/ex-players who passed away in 2010 include Roy Watson John Longworth proposed as life-member of the club by Andy Murray Three-lane artificial net practice facility completed in August 2010. Chairman Dave Jackson stands down after four years in the role, 1 st XI captain Ian Barber stands down after just over four years in charge Ashley Juniors wins its first trophy in recent years at Sale CC The club will continue its efforts to develop a girls junior side at Under 11/12 age group Club makes profit of £1,031 and has £5,650 in the bank Player of the Year awards for Nadeem Alam, Dave Rice, Pete Burgess & Simon Ferris Scorers & umpires needed for all teams, especially the junior sides Matt Smith took a hat-trick for the Under 9s v Stockport Georgians Senior players hit four centuries for the club, Grant Webb (2), Andy Shakespeare & Simon Ferris Four junior players selected for the South Trafford district under 11s side; Ben Ashworth-Kwasnik, George Johnston, Tommy Ryan & Josh Foster Research finds the first individual century scored for the club was in 1897 by J Cawley Junior organiser, volunteer co-ordinator & fixture secretary positions vacant, captains sought for 1 st , 2 nd , 3 rd XIs and new T20 side. Four new sub-committees set up towards the end of the 2010 season to assist with fund-raising, cricket policy, junior coaching, ground & pavilion maintenance Hale Barns to organise a mid-week T20 competition involving teams in and around Trafford; clubs encouraged to select talented junior players where possible. Ashley Cricket Club - Annual Report 2010 8 Life Membership - John Longworth With thanks to Andy Murray for obtaining the following information about John from one of his sons Mike, who now lives and works in New York. Mike mentions that his father may have been made a Life President some years ago, this can’t be confirmed after looking through previous minutes and handbooks, so everyone at the club would like to thank John for all he has done for the club in the last 30 years. Martin Wyn Griffith and his brother John, ex Bowdon players themselves, introduced two of John Longworth’s sons, Richard and Peter, to Ashley around 1972. John himself was instrumental in arranging favourable loans and funds from Macclesfield Borough Council for drainage and building as well as securing a licence for serving alcohol in the clubhouse. This became necessary when a bawdy first team celebration got the club banned en masse from their previous home, The Greyhound. And that despite the fact that the local policeman, Arthur Lamont, was a first team regular! A journeyman Sunday player and occasional second team performer, John Longworth took a Hat Trick on July 18th 1982 and has been paying off the bar tab ever since. It is all the more remarkable as John suffers from double vision and two paralysed fingers in his right hand which
