Stay Active and Play 60 Minutes! EXECUTIVE Director’S Message Fellow Coaches, At our recent summer meeting, your Executive Board discussed, among, many things, the numerous ways and manners in which the association serves it membership. Please allow me to enumerate the many services the association provides: AFFILIATIONS and RELATIONSHIPS; by being a member of our parent group, the MHSCA, we receive valuable insurance, have a column in the publication Prep Coach, have opportunities for input in the MHSCA decision making processes, and participate in their recognition programs. In addition, we serve on the MHSHL advisory committee on all matters pertaining to football, and have forged solid relationships with the U. of M, Mn. Vikings, many upper midwest Colleges and Universities, and The Doubletree Hotel. EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES; one of our goals is to increase and enhance educational opportunities and experiences for coaches and players. This is being accomplished in a number of ways. The MFC clinic; our mentor program, Ron Stolski Coach to Coach ; the Camp Outreach; Recruiting Fair; the recently established Executive Director Scholarship program; this Summer publication; the association informational flyer, and the All-Star game are all efforts to increase our knowledge and professionalism as we serve our kids and communities. RECOGNITION; we recognize and honor the accomplishments of our past and present in a number of ways as well. They are; the salute to academic accomplishments through the Academic, team and individual, citations; Mr. Football recognition and Banquet; the Awards Banquet, where several awards and recognitions are acknowledged, including honoring the Conferece, Section, Class and ultimately the Coach of the Year, The Butch Nash and Assistant Coach of the Year awards, the POI and Distinguished Service award, and the induction of the most recent Hall of Fame class. Service, and all it entails, continues to be a major function of the MFCA. How about you? As a member of our great profession, how can you serve. I invite you to examine the ways you serve not only, your association, but the community in which you live. In regard to the association, you can volunteer to serve as a conference rep or on any number of active committees as we continue to develop and expand. Simply contact me our Secretary Terry Turek, or President Shannon Gerretty with your interest or concerns. Within your school and community, you can idenify a number of ways you, your staff and team can contribute to the betterment and welfare of the place you live. We are blessed to be respected and influential. With that standing comes an obligation to serve. Please, this season, give special attention to becoming an active servant of your profession and community; give of your time and talents as a football teacher and coach. You can find a way. In closing, a special salute and thank you to all who have and do serve. A special thanks to Wayne Petermeier, our outgoing President. He has done a marvelous job, and accomplished much, and a warm welcome to Shannon Gerretty, our incoming President. Shannon has some good ideas to help us become yet better stewards of our game. Minnesota's game. A reminder that we are its' keepers.... Have a great year! Minnesota High School Football is as strong as ever and excitement surrounds us as our season approaches. The Minnesota Football Coaches Association is hard at work continuing to improve the game and the experience for the kids across the state. Recently, we had a very successful All Star Football Game at St. Cloud State University. The Metro had an exceptional comeback in the 4th quarter, winning the game 22-17. Thank you to all the coaches involved for providing an unforgettable experience for the players and fans. For those of you who outlasted the weather, congratulations for PRESIDENT “gutting it out.” Shannon Gerrety - Blaine I would like to share with you all of the programs our Football Coaches Association provides for you as a member.
