RAWSON MAJOR, UNITED STATES AIR FORCE MILITARY PROFESSOR Areas of Expertise – Japan, Airlift Operations Maj Tim Rawson joined the faculty at the Daniel K. Inouye Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies in May 2017 as a U.S. Air Force Military Professor after graduating the Japanese Air Self Defense Force Command and Staff College in Tokyo, Japan. He is an Air Force Northeast Asia Regional Affairs Strategist. (RAS). Maj Rawson entered the Air Force in 2003 after completing a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering at the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado. He earned his pilot rating two years later at Laughlin AFB, Texas. Maj Rawson completed formal training as a C-17 pilot and served the next five years at his first operational C-17 assignment with the 4th Airlift Squadron at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington. While at McChord, Maj Rawson was chosen for the highly selective Prime Nuclear Airlift Force (PNAF) program, the Department of Defense’s (DoD) only program assigned to transport nuclear weapons and nuclear-related cargo. He served in many positions including Evaluator Aircraft Commander, Squadron Chief Executive Officer, Nuclear Airlift Monitor, and Flight Commander. Maj Rawson also deployed twice in support of Operations ENDURING FREEDOM and IRAQI FREEDOM. He also attended Squadron Officer School and received a master’s degree in Administrative Leadership from Oklahoma University. Maj Rawson then assumed duties as the Deputy Chief, Nuclear Airlift Branch, Headquarters Air Mobility Command (AMC) at Scott Air Force Base, Illinois. Serving in this capacity, he was responsible for developing, managing, and implementing DoD PNAF policy, and representing USAF and AMC at DoD and Joint meetings on nuclear airlift procedures. Maj Rawson was then selected to attend the Japanese Air Self Defense Force Command and Staff College in Tokyo, Japan. Preceding this one year school, he completed a rigorous 15 month Japanese language course at the Defense Language Institute at the Presidio of Monterey in Monterey, California. Maj Rawson is a career aviator with 14 years of service and has over 2,400 hours flying the T-37, T-1, and C-17 aircraft. Educating, Connecting and Empowering.
