In the beginning, S&R Foundation’s mission was grounded in its support of talented artists and scientists involved in work for charitable, scientific, literary or educational purposes. Over the past 13 years, S&R’s mission to support talented individuals has expanded to encompass broad support of individuals with great potential and high aspirations in the arts, sciences and social entrepreneurship, with a special emphasis on furthering international cultural collaboration and ensuing social benefits. In support of its goals, S&R sponsors annual award programs, hosts concerts and events, and works with its partners to encourage social, scientific and artistic innovation, and to promote cultural and personal development. By supporting individuals and enabling their growth and success within various communities, S&R Foundation nurtures their desires, in turn, to enrich society by sharing the fruits of their hard work and dedication. Throughout 2013, S&R Foundation continued its commitment to existing programs, including the Washington Award, the Ryuji Ueno Award, the Global Leadership Program, and the Overtures Artist Concert Series. Additionally, the calendar was filled with new programs and events such as the first Artist-in-Residence and the inaugural event of the Illuminate Speaker Series. These programs draw together disparate groups concerned with a wide variety of issues – cultural, economic, research and change processes – enabling them to benefit from small, happy surprises, learn from shared experiences and profit from a sense of community. 2 | www.sandr.org AWARD & RECOGNIZE Washington Awards Ryuji Ueno Awards This graphic illustrates the breadth Fellowship Programs and depth of S&R Foundation programs.
