2014 SESSION INTRODUCED REPRINT 14105412D INTRODUCED 1 HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 450 2 Offered March 3, 2014 3 Commending the Williamsburg Winery. 4 ±±±±±±±±±± Patrons±±Mason, Pogge and Yancey; Senators: Miller and Norment 5 ±±±±±±±±±± 6 WHEREAS, the Williamsburg Winery, one of the Commonwealth©s oldest and most prolific wineries, 7 was awarded the Virginia Wineries Association©s 2014 Governor©s Cup for its 2010 Adagio, a blended 8 red wine; and 9 WHEREAS, the Williamsburg Winery has won the honor once before; in 1989, it was named a 10 Governor©s Cup winner for its 1988 Chardonnay; and 11 WHEREAS, the vintners at the Williamsburg Winery are committed to producing the finest wines 12 made solely from Virginia grapes; the winning Adagio wine is a careful blend of Cabernet Franc, 13 Merlot, and Petit Verdot wines; and 14 WHEREAS, the prized Governor©s Cup was presented to the Williamsburg Winery by Governor 15 Terence R. McAuliffe on February 27, 2014; there were more than 410 wines entered into the 2014 16 competition, representing 96 wineries; and 17 WHEREAS, the Commonwealth©s wine industry has grown tremendously in recent years, and the 18 Williamsburg Winery, with its long history of creating successful wines, has played a vital role in the 19 industry©s contributions to economic development and job creation; and 20 WHEREAS, the Williamsburg Winery©s 2010 Adagio is one of 12 Virginia wines that compose the 21 2014 Governor©s Case; those 12 selections were the top scoring wines in the 2014 Governor©s Cup 22 competition; Governor©s Case wines will be used to market Virginia wines and to educate consumers HJ450 23 about the Commonwealth©s burgeoning wine industry; and 24 WHEREAS, the goal of the Williamsburg Winery is to grow as a leader in the wine industry; the 25 company plans to develop wines that reflect the character of the Commonwealth and display elegance 26 and interesting flavors; now, therefore, be it 27 RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby 28 commend the Williamsburg Winery for winning the 2014 Governor©s Cup for its 2010 Adagio; and, be 29 it 30 RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution 31 for presentation to Patrick Duffeler, president and chief executive officer of the Williamsburg Winery, as 32 an expression of the General Assembly©s congratulations and admiration for its dedication and 33 commitment to producing outstanding Virginia wines. 5:45 8/17/14.
