Transfer Scholarship Guide Spring 2021 A guide for Gadsden State students transferring to 4-year colleges ATHENS STATE UNIVERSITY Transfer students are considered for two categories of scholarships automatically upon application to Athens State University. Because a limited number of these scholarships are awarded, students are encouraged to apply to Athens State as early as possible for the best opportunities. Awarding of the scholarships begins April 1 for Fall admission and on Nov. 1 for Spring admission. These scholarships are available: • Excellence Scholarships — Up to $1,000 a year — 3.0 GPA or higher required • Empowerment Scholarships — Up to $500 a semester — Financial need (EFC 1000 or less) Transfer students may also apply for Foundation and Alumni Association scholarships. Transfer students are consid- ered for scholarship upon application. Scholarships are awarded at the time of admission. The trans- fer merit scholarship award range is $3,500 to $76,500 per year and is based on your GPA. Phi Theta Kappa members are eligible for an additional $1,000 per year. Transfer and Scholarship Information: https://www.bsc.edu/admission/transfer.html JACKSONVILLE STATE UNIVERSITY To be considered for the JSU scholarships listed below students must: • Be unconditionally admitted to JSU • Have a minimum of 45 semester hours of transferable credit earned (unless noted below) • Have a final overall transfer GPA as determined by JSU that meets the requirement listed Transfer Merit Scholarships Upon admittance to JSU, students will be considered automatically for the following Transfer Merit Scholarships based on GPA: • Presidential Transfer Scholarship — 3.5+ GPA — $3,000 per semester for four semesters (Fall) • Academic Transfer Scholarship — 3.0-3.49 GPA — $1,500 per semester for four semesters (Fall) • STEP Transfer Scholarship – 3.0+ and accepted to STEP RN — $1,000 per semester for three semesters (Fall & Spring). • Spring Supplemental Transfer Scholarship — 3.5+ GPA, $1,500 for one semester — 3.0-3.49 GPA, $750 for one se- mester. Qualified students may use other awarded merit scholarships beginning with the following Fall semester. Competitive Merit Scholarships / Other Scholarships These scholarships require submission of an application via JSU’s Scholarship Manager: • Phi Theta Kappa Transfer Scholarship — 3.5+ GPA, scholarship application, proof of membership — $3,250 per se- mester for four semesters (Fall). Deadline is July 1. • Opportunity Transfer Scholarship — 3.0+ GPA, scholarship application — $500 per semester for four semesters (Fall semester – students with fewer than 45 semester hours earned) • Other scholarships listed in the JSU Scholarship Manager Application for Admission: http://jsu.edu/undergraduate/apply/index.html Transfer and General Scholarships: http://www.jsu.edu/transfer/scholarships-and-aid.html SAMFORD UNIVERSITY Transfer students are encouraged to apply to Samford for scholarships by Dec. 1. Scholarship opportu- nities include: • Transfer Academic Scholarship — Amounts vary — 3.0 or higher GPA • Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship — Must be a member of PTK — 3.0 or higher GPA • STEM Scholars — Transfer students studying in science, computer science and/or math fields • Legacy Scholarship — Must have a family member who is a Samford alumni — 2.5 GPA Application for Admission: www.samford.edu/admission/apply STEM Scholarship: www.samford.edu/arts-and-sciences/stem-scholars Scholarships: www.samford.edu/admission/scholarships TROY UNIVERSITY Transfer students must be admitted before applying for scholarships. Once accepted, students should create a profile on the scholarship website, then apply for all scholarships. Although no dead- line is set, students are encouraged to apply as early as possible. • Transfer Merit Scholarship — 3.0 GPA — $2,000 per year for two years. Must complete at least 45 transferable credit hours • Online Learner Transfer Scholarship — $1,500 per year — At least a 3.0 GPA. Must have com- pleted at least 12 hours and be pursuing an online degree. Alabama residency not required. Application for Admission: https://www.troy.edu/applications-admissions/admissions-process-requirements/undergraduate/ index.html UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA The University of Alabama offers automatic and competitive scholarships for qualifying transfer stu- dents entering the Fall 2021 and Spring 2022 semesters. Scholarships are awarded based on residency type. Deadlines are March 1 for Fall 2021 entry and Oct. 1 for Spring 2022 entry. Automatic awards are both entry terms described while competitive awards are only awarded one time per year and require a scholarship application. Awards can stack on top of each other provided that it does not exceed the cost of overall tuition. Automatic Scholarships Students will be considered automatically for the following transfer scholarships provided they have never attended another four- year institution since graduating from high school, have at least 45 transferable hours, have at least a 3.5 GPA on file at UA by the appropriate deadline mentioned above and a complete application for admission. • Community College Distinguished Scholarship — 3.75 GPA — $5,000 per year for two years • Community College Achievement Scholarship — 3.5 GPA — $3,000 per year for two years • Phi Theta Kappa Honors Scholarship — 3.5 GPA — $1,500 per year for two years — Must submit scholarship appli- cation and provide proof of membership. • All-Alabama Academic Scholarship — $1,000 per year plus $300 book grant for two years. Must be named to All- Alabama Academic Team. Competitive Scholarships Students must complete an application for admission, a transfer scholarship application by March 1 and have 45 hours completed and on file at UA in order to be eligible for competitive scholarships for Fall 2021. Students must not have attended another four- year institution since graduating from high school (unless otherwise indicated). • Presidential Transfer Scholarship — Full tuition for two years — Students must complete the UA scholarship applica- tion and be nominated by the Gadsden State Honors Committee. To be considered, students must submit a GSCC transfer scholarship application form, which is sent to all current students through GSCC email early in the Spring term. The GSCC application form must be received by the deadline stated in the email. • Financial Aid Community College Honors Scholarship — Full tuition for two years • Community College Excellence Scholarship — Full tuition for two years • National Alumni Association Community College Honors Scholarship — $2,000 per year plus $300 book grant per year for two years. • Roll Tide Transfer Scholarship — $3,000 per year for up to 3 years — Requires only 15 transferable hours and credit can come from any previous institution (two-year or four-year). Application for Admission: https://gobama.ua.edu/steps/transfer/ Transfer Scholarships: https://scholarships.ua.edu/transfer/ Bama By Distance (online) Scholarships: https://bamabydistance.ua.edu/ UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA AT BIRMINGHAM For Fall admission, transfer students must be admitted to UAB by March 1, have earned at least 45 semester hours of transferable course work prior to admission deadline and have a minimum 3.25 GPA. See UAB website for Spring Admission. Automatic Consideration Scholarships Transfer students are considered automatically for one of the following scholarships upon admission to UAB: • Phi Theta Kappa — $6,500 per year — 3.5-4.0 GPA — Must provide proof of Phi Theta Kappa membership • Transfer Excellence — $3,000 per year – 3.75-4.0 GPA • Transfer Scholarship of Distinction — $2,000 per year — 3.5-3.74 GPA • Transfer Pathway Scholarship — $1,000 per year — 3.25-3.49 GPA All scholarships are renewable for a total of two years. Competitive Scholarships • Community College Presidential Scholarship — Full tuition and fees for two years. Nominees for the scholarship are selected by the Gadsden State Honors Committee. Students must be admitted to UAB by Feb. 1, earn an AS degree by the end of Spring, earn a GPA of 3.5 or higher and be an Alabama resident. To be considered, students must sub- mit a GSCC transfer scholarship application form, which is sent to all current students through GSCC email early in the Spring term.
