Drug and Alcohol Treatment in Antigua and Barbuda Presented by: Crossroads Treatment Center – Kim Martin ONDCP- Marcia Edwards Drug and Alcohol Treatment in Antigua and Barbuda The ONDCP is the National Coordinating Entity for OAS/CICAD The Organization undertook the responsibility to re-energize the National Drug Council and was instrumental in the drafting and passage of the National Anti- Drug Strategy. The Drug Plan • Strengthen and increase the effectiveness of institutions that provide treatment and rehabilitation programmes to ensure that all persons who need treatment and rehabilitation have equal access to such services. • Support and strengthen treatment and rehabilitation programmes for persons suffering from substance abuse to include their psychological, social and biological needs. The Drug Plan Cont’d Introduce procedures to monitor treatment provided to drug abusers in an effort to ensure desired standards. Train persons at all levels of relevant disciplines of treatment and rehabilitation services. Strengthen research capabilities to ensure timely collection, analysis and dissemination of information. Crossroads Centre Antigua Crossroads Centre was founded in 1997 by Mr. Eric Clapton on the island of Antigua • Capacity: 8 detoxification beds; 28 residential beds • Serves: Men and women 18 years of age and older • Treats: Primary substance use disorders; most clients also have co-occurring and co- morbid disorders Crossroads Centre Programs Residential Treatment: 4 – 6 weeks Transitional Living: Antigua and Delray Beach Family Program: Offered monthly; 4 days Outpatient Services: (Antigua and Barbuda nationals only) a. Individual Counselling b. Day Program Treatment Crossroads Centre Antigua Residential Treatment consists of: Medical detoxification and evaluation Individual therapy Group therapy Assignments 12-Step groups Nutritional assessment Spiritual Counselling Lectures Fitness instruction, massage, Auricular acupuncture Breaking The Cycle Children’s Prevention Program Started in 2001 in public schools in Antigua Now serves 58 public and private primary schools in Antigua and Barbuda- third grade Approximately 1400 students/year 5 sessions per class Standardized Treatment Data Collection Project.
