Cassiobury Park Heritage Trails Cassiobury Park The story of the park… Cassiobury became a public park in 1909. Before that it was part of the lands of Heritage Trails Cassiobury House, home of the Earls of Essex for over 300 years. The original lands of Cassiobury House were recorded, in John Britain’s 1837 book about Cassiobury, as stretching to 693 acres includ- ing the parkland and the woodland walks, lawns and gardens immediately around the house. Arthur Capel Today’s park comprises 190 acres of that old 1st Earl of Essex parkland including Whippendell Wood. watford museum To find out more about the history of Cassiobury use the map overleaf to choose the right length of trail for you. Most of it can be done on the paved paths of the park but the sections in Whippendell woods can be muddy. On the longer walk there are a couple of short sections on single track roads.
