CAL POLY MEN’S BASKETBALL 2016-17 Season Accomplishments • Led Big West Conference in fewest turnovers per game for a fifth successive season and ranked 20th among 347 NCAA Division I programs with just 10.7 turnovers per game. During past five years, no Division I program has averaged fewer turnovers per game than Cal Poly (9.55). • Played 11 games versus 2017 postseason qualifiers, defeating: - UC Davis (Big West Tournament champion, NCAA Tournament second round); - UC Irvine (Big West regular season champion, NIT first round); - Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (Southland Conference runner-up, CollegeInsider.com Tournament runner-up) • Blocked 113 shots (3.65 per game) to record highest total and highest average under eighth- year head coach Joe Callero. • Finished with four double-digit scorers for the first time since 2009-10 season. • Hosted a nationally televised game on ESPNU from Mott Athletes Center before a soldout crowd for the third time in four seasons. • Matched program single game record with a 94.1 (16-for-17) percent free throw mark versus Illinois-Chicago (Nov. 25). • Forward Josh Martin’s 21-rebound total at Pepperdine (Nov. 11) marked the highest single game total in Cal Poly’s 23-year Division I era. • Guard and 2017 All-Big West second team selection Ridge Shipley graduated ranked seventh in program history with 287 career assists and sixth with 121 appearances. • One of only seven players in Cal Poly's 23-year Division I history to play in multiple postseason tournaments, senior forward Zach Gordon graduated ranked fourth in program history with 124 games played and sixth with 65 blocks. • Guard Kyle Toth finished 14th among NCAA Division I players with a 43.5 (84-for-193) percent three-point mark. • In February, graduated guard David Nwaba (2013-16) became the first former Cal Poly men’s basketball player to sign an NBA contract, agreeing to a pair of 10-day deals with the Los Angeles Lakers before signing a multi-year contract. .
