Project Identification Project title Transitional Bus Terminal at Bogambara Project Proponent Strategic Cities Development Project of the Ministry of Megapolis and Western Development, Sri Lanka. 2. Project Location Location Kandy, Central Province. (relative to the Project site is situated in between Kandy railway Station and Bogambara Ground. nearest town, Location of the project is depicted in Annex B1. highway) Definition of The Transitional Bus Terminal is proposed at the existing bus park at Bogambara, in Project Area front of the UDA Central Provincial Office premises. Total land area of the proposed site is 4968 sq. m. Project includes the following items as per the conceptual design and the transition plan for KMTT construction period. (The I. Baladaksha Mawatha on the North, connected to William Gopallawa Mawatha and Keppetipola Road on the East The land use of the project area at Bogambara is currently a bus park. As the site is close to the Kandy General Hospital, Kandy railway station, Good Shed bus stand and Kandy municipal market, pedestrian movement in and around the site is very high. At present bus parking is done in an ad hoc manner and the pedestrian movement is not convenient. Uneven and damaged tar floor of the Bogambara bus park lead to poor storm water drainage system at the site. Most of the people who are going to the Kandy General Hospital use the Keppetipola Road and Baladaksha Mawatha. UDA Provincial Office, Police quarters, Kandy Railway Station, Advance Technological Instuite, Bogambara stadium, public gym, Bogambara prison, Kandy Municipal Market, are the other adjacent land features in the immediate vicinity of the project area and the commercial places located in the surrounding area. Project Justification Need for Kandy Multimodal Transport Terminal (KMTT) is one of the major intervention of SCDP under the the project Public Transport and Traffic Improvement.
