The Market Catacombs The Hut on Hen’s Legs The Great Gate of Kiev 7 About the Nassau String Orchestra Soloists Aaron Langenauer is a proud MYO alumnus and was a member of the Nassau Principal Orchestra from 2007- 2009. He now works in the Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District as a middle school band teacher and instructional technology coach. Aaron continues to perform as a trumpet player throughout the Long Island area and in recent years has performed with such groups as the New Inlet Chamber Orchestra, South Shore Symphony Orchestra, and North Shore Symphony Orchestra, and is an occasional freelance church musician. He has additionally been a guest brass coach with the Metropolitan Youth Orchestras and serves on the Board of Directors for the New Inlet Chamber Orchestra. Aaron holds a Master of Science degree in Curriculum Development & Instructional Technology from SUNY Albany and a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education and Trumpet Performance with a Minor in Jazz Studies from the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam. Thomas Pang was born in Ronkonkoma, New York, and currently serves as a substitute teacher in Suffolk County. He earned his Bachelor of Music degree from Ithaca College where he was a member and founder of the Ithaca College Trumpet Ensemble, which placed fourth in the National Trumpet Competition in 2013. He earned his Master of Music degree from Stony Brook University, while maintaining an active teaching and performing schedule. He has advanced to the final and semi-final rounds of auditions for premier service bands such as the United States Air Force Band. Pang has been selected for the Aspen Music Festival, the Bar Harbor Brass Week, and the Colorado College Summer Music Festival in the last several years. His brass quintet, Anima Brass, was selected as the sole recipient of the American Brass Quintet Fellowship at the Aspen Music Festival and worked closely with the American Brass Quintet during their residency. He has studied with Kevin Cobb, Peter Bond, Dennis Edelbrock, Kim Dunnick, Michael Blutman, and Frank Campos. 8 About the March 4th Music Directors Doreen Fryling, Ed.D. (Nassau Concert Choir) is in her twenty-second year as a public school music educator. She currently teaches IB Music and chorus classes at South Side High School in Rockville Centre, NY, and has previously taught K-5 general music and middle school chorus. Doreen has presented on topics including differentiation, the boy’s changing voice, vocal health, curriculum, and politics in education. She is an outspoken critic of high-stakes testing and its negative effect on music education
