Styria Winegrowing Area: Lackner-Tinnacher Vineyard Wine

Styria Winegrowing area: Approximately 2,400 hectares in size and cultivated by about 950 winegrowers, the region is located to the south of the Leibnitz district. The winegrowing region extends from Leibnitz der Mur towards Spielfeld, to the Austrian-Slovenian border to Schlossberg near Leutschach. Important wine centres are Gamlitz, Leutschach, Glanz, Ratsch, Ehrenhausen, Silberberg, Spielfeld and Kitzeck in Sausal. Due to the latter’s extremely steep location, no other area in Austria is at a higher altitude. Southern Styria wine country produces some of the most high-quality white wines in Austria, but over the last few years red wine has been catching up. Lackner-Tinnacher Vineyard The success story of the Lackner-Tinnacher Vineyard dates back to 1770 in Gamlitz in southern Styria. It has been managed very astutely by Katharina Tinnacher since 2013. The old vines are the vineyard’s most important capital. In addition to prudent tending of the vineyards, the quality of the vines planted has a heavy influence on the excellence of the wine. For several generations the best vines have been meticulously selected, bred and then planted in the vineyard’s own nursery. Lackner-Tinnacher’s wine is exclusively made from its own vines (it has 27 hectares on the slopes of Eckberg, Gamitz, Steinbach, Flamberg Türken and Welles). The vineyard’s expertise on each vine, the way it uses and looks after its own grapes, combined with gentle, traditional production methods create fine wines which are timeless, elegant and very fruity. Lackner-Tinnacher wines are defined by origin, vintage, climate and skill. They are sophisticated and stand the test of time.
