Bad Bonn Kilbi Festival 23

Bad Bonn Kilbi Festival 23. – 25. May 2013 | Düdingen (CH) Do Re Kil-Bi! It’s quiet here. This silence is kind of a musical score, or the “soundtrack” to our preparations. The area and nature around the taverna are waiting and wondering. They are looking forward to the ‘Once a year everything is loud’. Nonstop music coming from all different sorts of loud speakers. That’s what the sparrows have been whistling about from our roofs since this morning. This festival wasn’t founded on the telephone by a guy from Berlin and one from Zurich. The Kilbi Festival has existed for a long time, and it’s not only thanks to hard work but also a bit of coincidence. We got back safe and sound from the ‘Überall’, to right in the middle of the most beautiful Pit of the Earth, to bestow on ourselves and everyone else, some magical moments at Lake Schiffenen, in Düdingen, from 23rd to 25th May 2013. Is it going to be the best Kilbi of all time? We leave questions or interjections up to the critics. Sometimes one doesn’t know which bands to book because of all the choices. But at least we have a suspicion about what we shouldn’t do with the Kilbi. After all the Kilbi gave us a life. During the final throes of a ‘tour de programmation’ we managed to invite some bands that have been on our wish list for a very long time. We are happy! There are Sensations: Sensation #1: THE FLAMING LIPS! Their shows usually confirm all superlavtives. What journey Wayne Coyne is going to take us on is not yet certain. But one thing is, whoever, hasn’t seen them yet, won’t forget them - ever. A psychedelically disguised experiment and even more fantasy! Sensation #2: MY BLOODY VALENTINE! The guys from Dublin are THE heroes of the Indirock-world. After more than twenty years they have just released their new album. And MBV is indeed a pop-masterpiece. You find yourself in the landing noise of a ghost plane, in a thunderous snowstorm or on a rock hammer construction site, and over and over again it becomes bright. Kevin Shields and his band are quirky, hypnotic, beautiful, and have always been ahead of their time. Sensation #3: GRIZZLY BEAR! They’ve been here before, and played in front of 30 guests. Now they’re back. And today the fellows from Brooklyn rightly belong to the “big shots”. No other band mixes music that exists already in such a great way. Their Chamber Pop consists of elements from Folk to Jazz. Suddenly, it’s just beautiful, then whimsical and at some point they’ve gone to hymn-like bombastic highs. Maybe they’ll use MBV’s aftershock as a carpet. It’s going to be a big moment; a sound installation of spectacular dimensions. In addition to those moments, there’s another big name afloat. JIM JARMUSCH! The master and darling of American Independent cinema . He’s more interested in people who go against the grain than those who walk over red carpets. With his electric guitar he accompanies and disturbs the classical lute-songs from JOZEF VAN WISSEM. One Likes Discoveries: The list of the “lesser knowns” is long. Sun to the land and Retro Pop in the ears is what ALLAH LAS bring us. Californian music for breakfast or the dance floor. Brilliant ! To discover again and again are the experimental born LIARS, the monsters of drums BASS DRUM OF DEATH, the sculpture-metal of MINIMETAL from Zurich, the leaders of the Chinese Indie-scene REBUILDING THE RIGHTS OF STATUES, the merciless Noise-Hip Hop of DEATH GRIPS or the beautiful voice of SÓLEY from Iceland. The Specials: Like a ghost, only dimly recognisable, is a certain JANDEK. He’s rarely been to Switzerland, or elsewhere. He likes to appear as an unknown guest. He sneaks on stage with local musicians and back off again. For Tom Waits and Thom Yorke he’s one of the most influential figures and models. SPECK means “Bacon”. They’re from Basel, and Grindcore used to be their specialty. After a long absence they’re back and will baptise our new housecat. The cat’s name is “Speck” and it sure likes to eat it. The procession takes place on Kilbi-Saturday. We don’t know anymore for the moment. Ambiance and Electronica: The master of Electro-ceremonies, DAN DEACON, sets the tone according to the principle: Everybody dances to his tunes and beats. The Tuareg TINARIWEN are a stage spectacle. Their story began in Libya’s desert and their fight for independence, their Bluesrock reflects that atmosphere. And very hot at the moment: GOLD PANDA, ANDY STOTT and the most famous German Techno producer and head-banger- favourite PANTHA DU PRINCE. The final moments at the house in the middle are legendary. They’re going to be led by our beloved pancake turners DJ FETT and DJ MARCELLE as well as the Kilbi-newbie and also ‘Vinyl-only’ DJ FITZ. Musically, the spectrum ranges from Soul to Hip Hop and Dubstep to Turkish Bazaar-Music and back. Everybody has the time to dance in unison and only wishes for the best of the best - and there’s nothing more to ask for. We would be happy to inform you about anything that isn’t written on this paper or that we simply forgot. Or you could just look it up on our website. By the way, over there, they’re no hipsters. On the Kilbi festival grounds we authorize and accept, by all means, un-deliberately badly dressed and ironic people. We’re sure, that this Kilbi is going to please the audience no matter what they wear. As ever, uncommercial and moneygrubbing. Enthusiastic by Music!
