GEOLOGY AND MINERAL WEALTH 166 2 [ Nagaur District Survey Report CHAPTER 1: Introduction Nagaur district falls almost in the central part of Rajasthan covering an area of 17,718 sq.km. The district is bounded by the latitudes 26°02'12" to 27°37'39" and longitudes 73°05'20" to 75°24'. The NH-65 which connects district H.Q. with Jodhpur and NH-89 connecting it with Ajmer and Bikaner are passing through the district. It is also connected with Jaipur, Jodhpur and Bikaner through broad gauge railway line. It is oval in shape. The district forms a part of great Thar desert and a large part of it is covered by wind blown sand. The district boundary is shared by seven districts of Rajasthan viz.-Jaipur, Ajmer, Pali, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Churu and Sikar. It falls in Ajmer division and administratively divided into four sub divisional offices viz. Didwana, Nagaur, Merta, and Parbatsar. Nagaur, Merta, Jayal, Ladnun, Didwana, Nawa, Makrana, Degana, Parbatsar and Khimsar are the ten tehsil head quaters of the district. Nagaur district is well known in the world over owing to the presence of Makrana marble. Marble occurring in the vicinity of Makrana town is so famous that 'Makrana' has become the synonymous of marbel. It has been worked entensively from time immemorial. Word famous Taj Mahal of Agra: Victoria Memorial, Kolkata: Delwara Jain Temple at Mount Abu and Ranakpur Temple in Pali & other famous monuments of excellent architechural art and beauty are constructed of Makrana marbel. 3 CHAPTER 2 Over view of Mining Activity in the District MINERAL OCCURRENCES It is the Makrana marble which has brought the Nagaur district on mineral map of the world. Other than the marble, limestone of varying grades. i.e. SMS grade, cement grade and chemical grade: tungsten, gypsum, lignite, halite with potash, clay etc. are important mineral resources of district. Mineral wise and areawise brief description of exploration, reserves and current status of blocks is given as below: LIMESTONE Limestone occuring in the Nagaur district belongs to Bilara Group of Marwar Supergroup. It is intermitantly exposed over a length of 150 kms in three prominent belts. The first major and important belt is passing through Bilara, Heera, Keria, Hari Singh, Bhawanda, Tadas, Tankla, Manakpur, Bher, Madpura-Gujron Ki Dhani, Chawandia and Tantwas. The second one is passing through Mundwa, Rol-Quazia, Gangwana, Surjniyawas Somna and Deh. The third belt which is comparatively smaller is located between Jayal and Katothi. The limestone occurring in these three belts exhibit great variation in physical, chemical and textural attributes. In general limestone beds are horizontally to sub horizontally disposed with some minor changes, locally at places. There is gradational change from limestone to dolomite through magnesium limestone, dolomitic limestone and calcitic dolomite. At number of places it also exhibits extensive development of biohermal, nonphosphatic stromatolites.the systematic exploration work for lime stone was initiated by department in 1984 except some prilimaery prospecting carried in 1961-64 near Rol Quazian Brief description of each limestone locality is as below: 4 (i) Rol Quazia : The area lies 20 kms. east of Nagaur having scanty exposures of limestone.Total 40 sq kms area was explored in 1961-64 and later reinvestigated in 1992-93 . In general limestone of the area is of 3 to 8mts thickness but erratic in nature with respect to depth and thickness , hence of limited industrial use. The analytical results of spot samples indicated 31-39% CaO, 12 to 18% MgO and 1 to 14% Si02. (ii) Marwar-Mundwa (2008-11) : Area was explored in 2008-11 and 46.00 mln tons of cement grade lime stone in 13.23 sq kms area was proved. Limestone is interbedded with dololnitic limestone beds and clay under 1 to 3 mts. alluvium or dolomitic limestone. The limestone is exposed over a strike length of 8 kms. having 0.5 to 2 km. width. The analytical results revealed 30 to 50% CaO, 1 to 18% MgO and 1 to 10% Si02. Area has already been granted under ML for major cement plant to M/ s Gujrat Ambuja Ltd. (iii) Chavandiya-Bhundel(1983-84) : Limestone is exposed in the N to NW and S to SW of the Chavandiya village. In the northern part it is siliceous in nature while in the southern part it is of SMS grade. NMDC has carried out detailed exploration in part of the area and ML for SMS grade limestone has been granted to them. The area is further explored by drilling in subsequent years. (iv) Tantwas-Bhojas Area(1984-85,1992): At about 11 km. north of Pachori village, situated on Nagaur-Phalodi route limestone is exposed over an area of about 6 X 3 kms.. Limestone exposures are mainly located north-east of village Tantwas, north of Sarunda and west of Mandliya.Departmental prospecting carried estimated 200 mil tons reserves in the area. In general limestone exposed in the south-western part of belt is dolomitic and charty in nature while in north-eastern part it is of cement grade. Another limestone exposure covering an area of about 1 sq. km. is located at about 3 kms. north of Tantwas and just south of village Bhojas. Four blocks of 25 sq. km. each, have been identified by the department in the Tantwas area for exploring the possibilities of setting up major cement plants. Areas have been notified for leasing. 5 RESEAVE BLOCK-4 : Reserved vide notification no F-4(184) Khan/Group-2/85, Dt-09/03/89,96 Madpura Area (4A)- Area was explored prior to reservation of block 4, i.e in 1986-88. Total 9.0 min tons reserves of SMS grade lime stone was assessed in 3 blocks namely Gujron ki Dhani ,Peeru kumar ki Dhani and Bher block. The area revealed 54% CaO, 1.0 to 2.0 % Si02 and marginal decrepitation test i.e powder formation slightly more then 10% at 1000⁰ c. Tankla(4B) : Deptt. of Mines & Geology explored the area in 1994-97. has proved 236 MT geological reserves and 137.29 MT mineable reserves of cement grade limestone in an area of 13.597 sq. kms. near village Tankla. The area revealed 42 to 53% CaO, 2.0 to 6.5 % Si02 . The area has been notified on 2.12.2000 for setting up major cement plant. Further govt. rereserved the area in 4.01.2008 and sanctioned 9.98 sq kms area to Ms Birla Corporation and remaning 7.66 sq kms kept for capacity building to existing plants Dehru-Jorawarpura (4D) : Limestone is exposed around Dehru and between Dehru and Jorawarpura in the form of scattered outcrops representing north-west extension of Gotan limestone belt. With the help of detailed exploration in 83-84 and in 95-99, Deptt. of Mines and Geology has proved 2 to 8 mts. thick cement grade limestone beds in an area of about 19.265 kms. In this area 196.62 MT geological and 123.62 MT mineable reserves of cement grade limestone have been computed with 42-53% CaO, 1-12% Si02 and 0.20 to 4% MgO. The block area has been dereserved on 31.03.2003 for setting up major cement plant. Manakpur-Bhawanda (4F) : Exploration in block is done in year 1998-2000. With the help of 1689 mts. drilling spreaded over 56 boreholes Deptt. of Mines & Geology has proved the presence of 2.5 to 8 mts. thick cement grade limestone beds in an area of 13.76 sq. kmts. near Manakpur-Bhawanda. Total 41.34 MT of high grade, chemical grade associated with cement grade limestone. An area of 12.50 sq kms is dereserved by notification on 2-4-2003 for lime stone minor. Tadas(4G-I & 4G-II): Exploration in block is done in year 1999-2001 . On basis of 70 bore holes two blocks 4gI,4GII were identified having 194.47 MT & 260.68MT of cement grade limestone in an area of about 9.77 sq. kms, 9.94 Sq kms . The area is notified in 08-06- 2007 and renotified in Dec 2011 due to litigations. 6 Dhingsara(4H): Exploration in block is done in year 1997-99 . On basis of 397 mts drilling in 14 boreholes in 7.6 sq kms , having 99 MT of geological resrves. The area is notified in 02-07- 2010 for cement grade limestone. Madpura block : 77.81 sq kms area was rereserved and exploration is done in year 2008-11. With the help of 1369 mts. drilling spreaded over 40 boreholes Deptt. of Mines & Geology has proved that in south of Madpura mostly intersection of magnesian lime stone is found and in Bher-Berathal area intersected high grade limestone of of 5 to 10 mts thickness. Gujaron Ki Dhani (4 kms east north east of Madpura village) : Deptt of Mines and Geology has carried out extensive drilling in the Gujaron Ki Dhani area and proved 1 km. long and 400-600 wide high grade limestone band having average 5.37 mts.
