NB Sports Hall of Fame Open During Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival The New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame will be open during the Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival from Thursday through to Sunday, September 11 to 14. Hours of operation are 12-9pm on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday; and 12 – 5pm on Sunday. Visitors to the museum can experience our two new exhibits on the history of baseball and para sport. 160 Years of Baseball in New Brunswick documents the sport’s exciting history since the first recorded game was played in Chatham in 1853. Displays feature artefacts from some of the province’s most outstanding players, coaches, officials and teams from the late 1800s to today. The World of Parallel Sport tells the story of New Brunswick’s trailblazing wheelchair athletes and coaches whose successes at the international level helped build parallel sport in the province and Canada. Artefacts from the museum’s collection and modern adaptive equipment from Para NB’s Equipment Loan Service show the evolution of parallel sport since the end of the Second World War. The NB Sports Hall of Fame is located at 503 Queen Street in the John Thurston Clark Memorial Building, a national historic site in the heart of Fredericton's Garrison District. For further information, please contact Melynda Jarratt, Curator and Outreach Officer for the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame, at 453- 6405 or [email protected]. 2. The style and influences in his music are increasingly diverse and he’s been characterized by his distinctive harmonic language, elegant orchestration and postmodern mix of musical elements. Originally from Canada’s West Coast, Phil Dwyer burst onto the international jazz scene in his late teens and was dubbed a saxophone prodigy by his early 20s. Dwyer sought out the action and excitement of New York City as a young man, where he met and sat in with some of the true jazz legends, including Art Blakey, “Philly” Joe Jones, and Rashid Ali. September 12, 7:30pm Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival presents John Hammond Grammy Award-winning musician and Blues Hall of Fame-inductee John Hammond is fifty years into his distinguished career, with no signs of slowing down. As early as 1962, John was touring the country with the likes of Eric Clapton and Jimi Hendrix, who he once convinced to play together in his backing band. Besides his own albums – Hammond has released over thirty records – he also scored Dustin Hoffman’s Little Big Man and hosted the widely acclaimed British documentary The Search for Robert Johnson. More recently, Hammond collaborated with the iconic Tom Waits and Los Lobos’ David Hidalgo, with Waits saying of Hammond: “John’s sound is so compelling, complete, symmetrical and soulful… He’s a great force of nature.” September 13, 2pm Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival presents Laila Biali with Phil Dwyer Having recorded with pop icon Sting and toured four continents with acts like Chris Botti, Paula Cole, and Suzanne Vega, Canadian jazz pianist and vocalist Laila Biali has captured worldwide recognition.
