Her work was praised at the time, but she became even more famous a century later. She was born Mary Grant In Kingston, Jamaica, daughter of a Scottish soldier and the owner of a boarding house for officers and their families. Born 28th March 1820. On hearing news of British soldiers going of to Russia to fight in the bloody battles of the Crimean war , she wanted to help. • Marry was so caring she became known amongst the soldiers as Mother Seacole.
