Where registers of baptisms, banns, marriages or burials have been deposited in Durham County Record Office the covering dates of the registers are given; these dates are those of the earliest and most recent register held in the Record Office, but it must not be assumed that all four types of register exist for the whole period indicated. Full details are given in our online church register database. The catalogue reference for each parish is given after the covering dates. If no dates or reference code are given then no registers are held in the Record Office and information concerning registers should be sought from the incumbent. All registers held in the Record Office are on microfilm and to see them it is therefore necessary to reserve a microfilm reader. The original registers will not be made available.
