Mt Roskill Intermediate School Denbigh Avenue, Mt Roskill Auckland 1041 Enrolment forms should be returned as soon as possible, to enable us to process the applications, send out acceptance letters, and begin organising Year 7 classes for 2021. Parents who wish to enrol their child in person, or who wish to discuss any matter about their child are welcome to arrange a time through the school office to meet the Deputy Principal. Closing Dates for all Enrolments:- In Zone enrolments will be sought by Wednesday 2 nd September 2020 Please refer to the map for the School Home Zone . Out of zone enrolments will be sought by 3:00p.m, Wednesday 2n d September 2020 The ballot date is Wednesday 9t h September 2020. ● Parents will be notified by email if they are successful or not by 3pm Friday 11 th September 2020. ● Those successful in the ballot are asked to confirm acceptance of their place by Friday 25t h September 2020. Transition Visits We hold transition visits for enrolled students who will spend half a day at MRI in Year 7 classrooms. These include an orientation, time in a specialist classroom and getting to know other students and staff. ● Wednesday 28 October Mt Roskill Primary School Transition visit ● Thursday 29 October All other Primary Schools Transition visit Classroom Placements We want to ensure that your child thrives at intermediate school and feels as if Mt Roskill Intermediate is home. A lot of time is spent making sure that we have all the information we need about your child as a person and a learner. They can then be carefully placed with the teacher best-suited to their needs and abilities. In addition to the information you provide, placement information and data about students enrolled with us is requested from their contributing schools. This helps us know where we can support and extend them and will assist with your child's smooth transition to our school and their class placement Placement in a class is not final and adjustments are made when and where needed, although we make every attempt to maintain stability. 2021 Welcome - First Day of School Thursday 4th February 2021 We will welcome your child and family with a short Powhiri in the gymnasium. After this, students will find out their classroom and teacher and you will have the opportunity to meet the school Leadership Team and the Board of Trustees over a cup of tea. HOME ZONE All students who live within the home zone described below (and shown on the attached map) are entitled to enrol at the school. All streets within and including the following boundary description: ● The south side of Landscape Road starting from the Dominion Road end until St Andrews Road. ● South along both sides of St Andrews Road turning west along both sides of Selwyn Road until Buckley Road. ● South along both sides of Buckley Road turning east along both sides of Fernleigh Ave until Peet Ave and including all of Tansley Ave. ● All of Hillsborough Road up until Olsen Ave, including Budock Road, Delargey Ave, Luck Crescent, Steins Ave and Kelsey Crescent. ● Both sides of Olsen Ave (including Eaton Road and Goad Crescent) leading into Melrose Road. All of Melrose Road and Oakdale Road (including Fickling Ave) until (and including Camelia Place). ● Both sides of Arundel Street and from the western end of Arundel Street draw a line across Keith Hay Park to the Intersection of Richardson Road and Dominion Road extension. ● The north-eastern side of Richardson Road from Dominion Road Extension until, but excluding Amazon Parade. ● All of May Road, including Marion Ave, McGowan Street, Roma Road and Cullen Ave. At the end of May Road, turn north-west along both sides of Mt Albert Road until Renfrew Ave. ● Both sides of Renfrew Ave, turning east along both sides of Invermay Ave and turning north along both sides of Dominion Road and Landscape Road. Proof of residence within the home zone will be required. Applications for enrolment for 2021 from homezone students will be sought by Wednesday 2 nd September 2020. This will enable the board to assess the number of places which can be made available to students who live outside the home zone. Mount Roskill Intermediate School - Enrolment Home Zone Map This information can be found at: https://nzschools.tki.org.nz/ OUT OF ZONE Each year the board will determine the number of places which are likely to be available in the following year for the enrolment of students who live outside the home zone. The board will publish this information on the school website (www.mri.school.nz). The notice will indicate how applications are to be made and will specify a day by which all applications must be received. Applications for Out of Zone enrolment will be processed in the following order of priority: First Priority Students seeking enrolment in Special Programmes (Tennyson Centre) run by the school and approved by the Secretary for Education. Acceptance is based on maintaining suitable class numbers and optimizing resources. Second Priority Applicants who are siblings of current students. Third Priority Applicants who are siblings of former students. Fourth Priority Applicants who are children of Board employees. Fifth Priority Other applicants. If there are more applicants in the second, third, fourth or fifth priority groups than there are places available, selection within the priority group will be by a ballot conducted in accordance with instructions issued by the Secretary under Section 11G(1) of the Education Act 1989. Applicants seeking second or third priority status may be required to give proof of a sibling relationship. Applications for enrolment for 2021 from out of zone students will be sought by 3pm, Wednesday 2 nd September 2020. The ballot date is Wednesday 9th September 2020. Parents will then be notified by email if they are successful or not by 3pm Friday 11 th September 2020. Those successful in the ballot are asked to confirm acceptance of their place by Friday 25 th September. SPECIAL PROGRAMMES The school operates the following special programme: Tennyson Centre – (Special Education Unit) Students who live within the school’s home zone and meet the criteria for enrolment in the special programme will be enrolled ahead of out of zone students. The criteria for acceptance into the programme are as follows: 1. An applicant must have a recognised disability which requires access to some or all of the specialist services provided by the Tennyson Centre: and 2. An applicant will be eligible to continue to receive ORS funding. Where there are more applicants for the programme than there are places available, entry into the programme will be determined in accordance with the following criteria (listed in order of importance): 1. First priority will be given to students living within the home zone. 2. For students living outside the home zone, priority will be given based on the applicant’s proximity to the school in relation to other schools operating similar programmes. 3. Acceptance is based on maintaining suitable class numbers and optimizing resources. .
