To approve Shawn Bridges, Teacher at Broad Street School, to attend a five-day seminar, Democracy at Risk: Holocaust and Human Behavior at the Germantown Friends School in Philadelphia, PA on July 10-14, 2017. Total cost $1405.00, Acct. #’s 20-270-200-101-00-40, 20-270-200-220-00-40, 20-270-200-580-00-40. b. To approve Madjiguene Fall, Rowan University Professor-In-Residence, to provide professional development for staff at West Avenue School on June 14, 2017. The study Dancing Between Tongues: An Ethnographic Case Study of Language Minorities in the US examines the socioeconomic opportunities and challenges presented by the characteristics of language minorities' literacies and identities in an era characterized by perceivable harsh immigration laws and nationalistic tendencies in the US and Western Europe. (No cost to the Board) c. To approve Barbara Wilchensky, Director of Curriculum LAL, to attend the 50th Annual Conference on Reading and Writing on October 27, 2017 from 8:00 AM-4:00 PM at the Hyatt Regency, New Brunswick, NJ. Registration cost $180.00, Acct. # 11-000-221-590-00-84. d. To approve Professional Development On-Line Topics for Administrators, Teachers and Aides through The Master Teacher – Paraeducator PD Now online training program for understanding and addressing the needs of “At Risk Students in General Education”. The Office of Special education is utilizing CEIS (Coordinated Early Intervention Services) to reduce referral and increase students’ academic and emotional support. This will provide unlimited support to all staff. Total cost $3854.00, Acct. # 20-250-200-590-00-40. (Pending availability of IDEA Funds 2017-2018) e. To approve Professional Development On-Line Topics for Administrators, Teachers and Aides through The Master Teacher – Paraeducator PD Now online training program for understanding and addressing the diverse needs of “Classified Students”. This will provide unlimited support to all staff. Total cost $1096.00, Acct. # 20-250- 5 BOE Public Action Meeting Date: June 13, 2017 @ 6:00 PM-BHS Media Center 200-590-00-40. (Pending availability of IDEA Funds 2017-2018) g. To approve 2017-2018 District-wide Professional Development Trainings. Title II funds will be used to compensate those in the BEA (teachers’ union) for trainings that occur outside of their contractual time. Such offerings will allow teachers to remain in class, allowing schools to curtail their demand for substitutes and provide students with continuity of instruction. Approximately 45 two-hour workshops throughout the year (July 1, 2017-June 30, 2018). Total cost $60,066.00, Acct. #20- 270-200-101-00-40. h.
