CAMP Guide - Wallerstein Collection of Political Ephemera Immanuel Wallerstein Collection of Political Ephemera of the Liberation Movements of Lusophone Africa and Anglophone Southern Africa (1958-1975) Inventory and Reel Guide INTRODUCTION This inventory of Professor Immanuel Wallerstein's collection of political ephemera was compiled by Beverly Grier and Margaret Kinsman. Both are Yale graduate students- Ms. Grier in Political Science and Ms. Kinsman in History. The cost of their labor was borne by the now defunct Southern African Research Archival Project (SARAP) Funded by the Ford Foundation through the Northwestern University Program of African Studies. The selection of the documents to be filmed was begun by Mr. Richard Ruda, formerly a Yale graduate student in History, and completed by Ms. Kinsman. The items that were not filmed are those that are in the Chilcote Collection, filmed by the Hoover Institution Press, and serials filmed by CAMP. In some cases a different version, edition, or translation of a document may be found in Chilcote. Also omitted were clippings from Time Magazine and other readily available periodicals. In some cases entire issues of less common magazines are in the original collection but only one or two sections are relevant – only these were filmed. The cost of the filming was borne by CAMP - the Cooperative Africana Microform Project sponsored by the African Studies Association - and administered by the Center for Research Libraries. The microfilming was performed by the Yale University Library Photographic Services Department. Ms. Kinsman checked each frame against the original documents and arranged for some omitted items to be filmed and spliced in. A few pages here and there were filmed twice. A preliminary guide listing all the serial publications and noting the reels where publications of various organizations may be found was prepared by Ms Kinsman. That guide is now superseded. Ms. Grier completed the detailed inventorying of the pamphlets, broadsides, etc. We would thank Professor Wallerstein for lending his collection to be filmed. His generosity adds an excellent and vital documentation to the material available to scholars of liberation movements. Copies of the films are held by the Center for Research Libraries in Chicago (both the preservation negative and a loan copy). Further copies are held by the Hoover Institution at Stanford and by Yale.
