The Wolfe Institute The Ethyle R.Wolfe Institute for the Humanities, in cooperation with the Department of Political Science and the Department of Journalism, presents Late Edition Print Journalism and the Future of Democracy Eric Alterman is Distinguished Professor of English and Journalism and professor of journalism at Brooklyn College and at the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism. He is also “The Liberal Media” columnist for The Nation, a fellow of the Nation Institute, a senior fellow at the Center for American Progress in Washington, DC, where he writes and edits the “Think Again” column, a blogger for The DailyBeast.com, a columnist on Jewish-related issues for Moment Magazine, a regular contributor to The Daily Beast, and a senior fellow (since 1985) at the World Policy Institute in New York. Alterman is the author of seven books,including, most recently, Why We’re Liberals: A Handbook for Restoring America’s Most Important Ideals (2008, 2009). In recent years, he has also been a columnist for Worth, Rolling Stone, Mother Jones, and The Sunday Express (London), MSNBC- TV and MSNBC.com, and a history consultant to HBO Films. Belinda Luscombe is Editor-at-Large for TIME Magazine covering culture, media and human relations. She began her journalism career at The Daily Telegraph in Sydney, Australia, where she covered general news and wrote a humorous dining column. Her work has also appeared in New York Magazine, Sports Illustrated, Fortune, Mademoiselle, The New York Times, Travel & Leisure, Vogue and Vogue Australia, Who Weekly (Australia), Arena (Great Britain), and the South China Morning Post (Hong Kong). She has contributed humorous essays to several books, including Dick for a Day (Simon and Schuster) and Fresh Milk (Random House). She appears regularly on The Today Show and Good Morning America. Jake Dobkin is the founder and publisher of Gothamist, the network of city blogs. Started in New York City in 2003, his network has since expanded to 13 cities in four countries. Each of his sites focuses on news, arts and events, and food content, aimed at a 24-36 year old audience. A life-long Brooklynite, Jake is a graduate of Columbia University and NYU, where he got his MBA in 2005.
