She was our liason with ICS for computer hardware and software issues and also did purchasing of certain supplies. A Customer Service Representative, Latisha Griffen, has been promoted to Sanitation Inspector II in the new curbside recycling division. The Customer Service Representatives answer phone calls and create work orders to have requests for service scheduled. Last year, the TBEP Policy Board asked that I send a letter to FDOT letting them know of the Old Tampa Bay Integrated Model project and offering to work with them to evaluate various causeway configurations for the Howard Frankland Bridge. Our model is now complete and available, and the attached letter again offers to work with FDOT to examine ways that the water quality may be improved in Old Tampa Bay with the new bridge configurations. Representative Jolly is also interested in encouraging FDOT to consider using our model, and has asked to be kept informed—I have copied him on this letter also. Moore' Subject: TBEP offer to FDOT re: application of Old Tampa Bay integrated model Dear Ms. Creighton: The Tampa Bay Estuary Program (TBEP), in partnership with the Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFMWD), has now completed a suite of watershed and bay models to determine possible environmental benefits resulting from future management actions in the lands surrounding Old Tampa Bay. These management actions can range from improvements to stormwater and wastewater infrastructure in the watershed to physical alterations of causeways and bridges that span Old Tampa Bay. Based on the simulated outputs garnered from the integrated models, informed resource management decisions can be 6 made regarding the cost-effectiveness of future projects to help improve Old Tampa Bay’s environmental condition. Simulated results from the TBEP and SWFWMD modeling effort indicate that localized benefits to circulation (and therefore water quality improvements) in the western nearshore portions of Old Tampa Bay may result from modifications to the Howard Frankland Bridge causeway. These improvements may potentially lead to improvements in seagrass habitat and reductions in nuisance algal blooms in these regions of Old Tampa Bay. The TBEP has committed some future funds to work with regional partners to exercise the models for refined assessments of potential management actions in the region. As such, we encourage FDOT to work with us further in their design utilizing the existing models developed for the Old Tampa Bay region. We would welcome the opportunity to talk with your science staff and FDOT about the results of the modeling efforts-- which indicate that incorporating modifications in the design of the planned Howard Frankland Bridge may provide benefits to Old Tampa Bay-- at this early stage of FDOT’s planning efforts.
