The handbook is designed to serve as a guide to students, to give information so that students may follow proper school procedures and to foster positive attitudes towards school and activities. We believe education is a cooperative enterprise between the home and school; therefore, we welcome ideas and recommendations. Certainly not all procedures and rules of the high school are defined in the handbook. If you have questions it is always better to ask before you act. Equal Opportunity (Nondiscrimination) Policy It is the policy of the Catasauqua Area School District that no person shall be subjected to unlawful discrimination on the ground of race, color, age, creed, religion, sex/gender, sexual orientation, ancestry, national origin, handicap/disability, or any other legally protected classification with respect to any of its programs or activities or in the employment of any personnel. Sexual harassment or harassment relating to an individual's race, color, age, creed, religion, sex/gender, sexual orientation, ancestry, national origin, handicap/disability, or any other legally protected classification is a form of unlawful discrimination and is expressly prohibited under the School District's policy. The School Board has adopted procedures for filing complaints of unlawful discrimination/harassment with the School District and the School District's investigation and disposition of those complaints. If you would like to obtain a copy of the complete nondiscrimination policy, including the complaint procedures, please contact the Superintendent, 201 N. 14th Street, Catasauqua, PA 18032; phone 610-264-5571. The Superintendent is the District's Compliance Officer for all nondiscrimination requirements (503/504-Title VI-Title VII- Title IX-ADA Coordinator). The nondiscrimination policy and complaint procedures are also available on the District's web site: www.cattysd.org FERPA The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a federal law that protects the privacy of student educational records. The law applies to all schools that receive funds under an applicable program of the U.S. Department of Education. FERPA affords parents the following rights regarding their minor children’s records: The right to inspect and review the student's educational records. The right to request the amendment of the student's educational records to ensure they are not inaccurate, misleading, or otherwise in violation of the student's privacy or other rights. The right to consent to disclosure of personally identifiable information contained in the student's educational records, except to the extent that this act authorizes disclosure without consent. The right to file with the U.S. Department of Education a complaint concerning alleged failure of the CASD to comply with the requirements of this act. The right to obtain a copy of the Catasauqua Area School District student records policy/procedures. Generally, schools must have written permission from the parent or eligible student in order to release any information from a student’s education record. However, FERPA allows schools to disclose those records, without consent, to the following parties or under the following conditions: School officials with a legitimate educational interest; Other schools to which a student is transferring; Appropriate parties in connection with financial aid to student; Organizations conducting certain studies for or on behalf of the school; Accrediting organizations; To comply with a judicial order or lawfully issued subpoena; Appropriate officials in cases of health and safety emergencies; and State and local authorities, within a juvenile justice system, pursuant to specific state law. Confidential Communications Use of a student’s confidential communications to school personnel in legal proceedings is governed by statutes and regulations appropriate to the proceeding. For examples see, 42 PA. C.S. §5945 (relating to confidential communications to school personnel). Information received in confidence from a student may be revealed to the student’s parents, the principal or other appropriate authority where the health, welfare or safety of the student or other persons is clearly in jeopardy. 2 Daily Bell Schedule Lunch 5 Lunch 7 Lunch 9 HR 7:44-7:47 HR 7:44-7:47 HR 7:44-7:47 1 7:50-8:34 1 7:50-8:34 1 7:50-8:34 2 8:37-9:21 2 8:37-9:21 2 8:37-9:21 3 9:24-10:08 3 9:24-10:08 3 9:24-10:08 4 10:11-10:55 4 10:11-10:55 4 10:11-10:55 L 10:58-11:28 5/6 10:58-11:42 5/6 10:58-11:42 6/7 11:31-12:15 L 11:45-12:15 7/8 11:45-12:29 8/9 12:18-1:02 8/9 12:18-1:02 L 12:32-1:02 10 1:05-1:48 10 1:05-1:48 10 1:05-1:48 11 1:51-2:35 11 1:51-2:35 11 1:51-2:35 Activity Bell Schedule Lunch 5 Lunch 7 Lunch 9 HR 7:44-7:47 HR 7:44-7:47 HR 7:44-7:47 Act 7:50-8:14 Act 7:50-8:14 Act 7:50-8:14 1 8:17-8:57 1 8:17-8:57 1 8:17-8:57 2 9:00-9:39 2 9:00-9:39 2 9:00-9:39 3 9:42-10:21 3 9:42-10:21 3 9:42-10:21 4 10:24-11:03 4 10:24-11:03 4 10:24-11:03 L 11:06-11:36 5/6 11:06-11:48 5/6 11:06-11:48 6/7 11:39-12:21 L 11:51-12:21 7/8 11:51-12:35 8/9 12:24-1:08 8/9 12:24-1:08 L 12:38-1:08 10 1:11-1:52 10 1:11-1:52 10 1:11-1:52 11 1:55-2:35 11 1:55-2:35 11 1:55-2:35 Early Dismissal Bell Schedule Lunch 5 Lunch 7 Lunch 9 HR 7:44-7:47 HR 7:44-7:47 HR 7:44-7:47 1 7:50-8:33 1 7:50-8:33 1 7:50-8:33 2 8:36-9:20 2 8:36-9:20 2 8:36-9:20 3 9:23-10:07 3 9:23-10:07 3 9:23-10:07 4 10:10-10:51 4 10:10-10:51 4 10:10-10:51 L 10:54-11:24 5/6 10:54-11:34 5/6 10:54-11:34 6/7 11:27-12:07 L 11:37-12:07 7/8 11:37-12:17 8/9 12:10-12:50 8/9 12:10-12:50 L 12:10-12:50 2 Hour Delay Bell Schedule Lunch 5 Lunch 7 Lunch 9 HR 9:44-9:47 HR 9:44-9:47 HR 9:44-9:47 1or3 9:50-10:20 1or3 9:50-10:20 1or3 9:50-10:20 2or4 10:23-10:54 2or4 10:23-10:54 2or4 10:23-10:54 L 10:57-11:28 5/6 10:57-11:42 5/6 10:57-11:42 6/7 11:31-12:16 L 11:45-12:16 7/8 11:45-12:28 8/9 12:19-1:01 8/9 12:19-1:01 L 12:31-1:01 10 1:04-1:48 10 1:04-1:48 10 1:04-1:48 11 1:51-2:35 11 1:51-2:35 11 1:51-2:35 3 IMPORTANT DATES Faculty Meetings Students will be dismissed approximately one and one-half hours early on these days: September 19, 2018 October 31, 2018 December 21, 2018 February 6, 2019 May 8, 2019 Faculty In-Service Days There will be no school for students on these days: December 3, 2018 March 8, 2019 2018-2019 Report Card Distribution Report card distribution will be on a nine-week cycle for the both the elementary and secondary schools.
