DR. SHAILESH NAYAK Dr. Shailesh NAYAK ,Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences Chairman, Earth Commission India, was born 21 August 1953. He had his Bachelors of Science degree on Geology, Physics, Chemistry at 1973, Master of Science degree on Geology at 1975 with distinction and Philosophy of Doctorate degree at 1980 from University of Baroda, Vadodara. Dr.NAYAK has begun his profession as Senior Scientific Asst. at Gujarat Engineering Research Institute Mar. 1977. Then Dr. NAYAK had started as Scientific Asst. ‘C’ at Space Applications Centre (ISRO) in 1978. He has promoted to Scientist ‘SC’ (1981) , Scientist ‘SD’(1985),Scientist ‘SE’(1989),Scientist ‘SF(1993)’, Scientist ‘SG’(1998), Group Director, Marine & Water Resources(2001), Scientist ‘G’ (2003)(promoted to Scientist ‘H” from Jan, 2007).He became director at Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Centre (INCOIS), MoES in 2006 and Secretary, MoES Chairman, Earth Commission to the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) at August,2008. He currently holds the same position. Dr. NAYAK is specialized on Oceanography/Remote Sensing and his areas of research are on Coastal and Ocean processes, air-sea interaction, coastal hazards, coastal geomorphology, and geological/geomorphic processes. DR NAYAK published many articles on respected journals, acted as paper examiner, chairman, or co- chair at numerous national and international conferences. As the Secretary, MoES, Dr. Shailesh Nayak has initiated several new programmes/centres/activities relating to Global change and use of geosciences for overall societal benefits. .
