THIAGARAJAR COLLEGE: MADURAI – 09: TAMIL NADU (Accredited with ‘A’ status by NAAC) NATURE CLUB Report of the Extension Activity held on 05.06.2019 We organized a one day extension program in Theppakulam, Madurai District on 05.06.2019 from 9.00 a.m. to 11.00 a.m. World Environment Day. World Environment Day of 2019 will urge industries, communities and individuals to come together and explore renewable energies, green technologies and improve air qualities in cities and regions over the world. Students of Thiagarajar Nature Club celebrated World Environment Day by creating awareness among people by providing pamphlets to public about the theme air pollution in Theppakulam, Madurai. As a part of the activity they went for a tree walk under the guidance of Dr.R.Aruna, Nature Club Coordinator in Theppakulam Mayya Mandapam. They came to know about the various varieties and species of trees in the mandapam. Students actively participated in the awareness programme. THIAGARAJAR COLLEGE: MADURAI – 09: TAMIL NADU (Accredited with ‘A’ status by NAAC) NATURE CLUB Report of the Extension Activity held on 19.06.2019 We organized a one day extension activity at Thiagarajar College, Madurai district on 19.06.2019 from 10.00 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. Yoga is a physical, mental and spiritual practice originated in our country. Our honorable Indian Prime Minister stated that "Yoga is an invaluable gift of India's ancient tradition". The 5th annual International day of Yoga is celebrated in our college on 19 June 2019 by our enthusiastic nature club students. Honorable Principal Dr.D.Pandiaraja presided over the event where two yoga veeras (volunteers) Mrs. Aruna and Mr. Suresh from Isha yoga center addressed the students and taught some yoga asanas to our students. Our students took part enthusiastically and they had a great day by knowing about the importance and benefits of Yoga. Vote of thanks was given by Dr.R.Aruna, Nature Club Coordinator. Nature Club students at Yoga training on International Yoga Day at Thiagarajar College on 19.06.2019 THIAGARAJAR COLLEGE: MADURAI – 09: TAMIL NADU (Accredited with ‘A’ status by NAAC) NATURE CLUB Report of the Extension Activity held on 01.07.2019 The Nature Club students of Thiagarajar College participated in a Tree Plantation Program organized by Madurai Kamaraj University on 01.07.2019 from 3.00 p.m. to 5.00 p.m.. The objective of this program was to spread and create awareness to protect the environment from degrading. The program started with an influential speech on the importance of trees in our lives by the officials who organized this program. Under the guidance of the Nature Club Coordinator, each student planted a tree in the open land and watered it. Students made this program a big success by giving their full co-operation and support. THIAGARAJAR COLLEGE: MADURAI – 09: TAMIL NADU (Accredited with ‘A’ status by NAAC) NATURE CLUB Report of the Extension Activity held on 04.07.2019 We organized a one day extension program in Thiagarajar College, Madurai District on 04.07.2019 from 2.00 p.m. to 3.00 p.m. On July 3rd, IPEN Participating Organizations from around the world participated in "Plastic Bag-Free Day," highlighting the need to phase-out plastic bags and promote organic reusable bags. Plastic bags can take hundreds of years to degrade, releasing tiny particles of toxic chemicals into soil and water, polluting the environment and harming many living organisms, such as those in marine environment. The International Plastic Bag Free Day is a unique opportunity to spread the word that a plastic bag free world is possible and that sound environmental alternatives to single use plastic bags are available. Nature club students of Thiagarajar college commemorated the international plastic bag free day on 04.07.2019 by making awareness by depicting posters about not to use Plastic and to promote organic reusable bags. They were enthusiastic to commemorate the International Plastic Bag Free Day. On behalf of this day 71st anniversary, students of nature club planted ornamental plant saplings at our college campus, to have a green and peaceful environment around us. Nature club coordinator Dr.R.Aruna welcomed the gathering. Our respected Principal Dr. D.Pandiaraja presided over the function and encouraged the students to make a green and clean environment. Our students took part enthusiastically and planted the saplings with a great care. Students themselves planted the plants and watered them by the guidance from the coordinator. From this activity they learned about how to plant saplings in a perfect manner from the coordinator. Neem saplings preparation at Thiagarajar College on 07.07.2019 for the 71st College Anniversary THIAGARAJAR COLLEGE: MADURAI – 09: TAMIL NADU (Accredited with ‘A’ status by NAAC) NATURE CLUB Report of the Extension Activity held on 11.07.2019 One day extension activity on 11.07.2019 at Thiagarajar College, Madurai District from 9.00 a.m. to 11.00 a.m. Plantation of trees and plants aids in making the environment better. Plant purifies the air, conserves water, helps in climate change, preserves soil and benefits the overall environment in several other ways. Tree plantation involves transplanting tree seedlings to grow forests and spread greenery around. Students of Thiagarajar College Nature Club made neem saplings with an intention to increase the green cover of the locality. The students prepared neem saplings by collecting the neem seedlings that are present in the college. Instead of buying nursery bags, they collected plastic milk covers from their home with an idea to reuse plastic bags. The students actively prepared the neem saplings in milk covers with the guidance of the coordinator Dr.R.Aruna. Preparation of Neem Seedlings in plastic bags at Thiagarajar College on 11.07.2019 THIAGARAJAR COLLEGE: MADURAI – 09: TAMIL NADU (Accredited with ‘A’ status by NAAC) NATURE CLUB Report of the Extension Activity held on 19.07.2019 One day extension activity at Puliyankulam village, Madurai district on 19.07.2019 from 9.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. Unnat Bharat Abhiyan is a flagship programme of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, with the intention to enrich Rural India. The Nature Club students of Thiagarajar College adopted Puliyankulam village under the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan Scheme of the Central Government that aims to develop villages. The aim of this program is to know the necessities of the rural public. Before the survey; students were given instructions on filling the form. Students worked as teams and performed the survey. aadhar number, household member’s details were collected.. There are basic amenities such as ration shop, primary and secondary government schools and primary health centre in the village. The survey data was uploaded into the UBA website by the students. Nature club volunteers collecting survey details from the public of Puliyankulam village, for the extension activity on 19.07.2019 THIAGARAJAR COLLEGE: MADURAI – 09: TAMIL NADU (Accredited with ‘A’ status by NAAC) NATURE CLUB Report of the Extension Activity held on 22.07.2019 One day extension activity at Puliyankulam village, Madurai district on 22.07.2019 from 2.00 p.m. to 4.00 p.m. The Nature Club volunteers extended their explanation to school students at Puliyankulam to increase awareness and understanding about the importance of hand washing with soap as an effective and affordable way to prevent diseases and save lives and also save water. It is also an opportunity to encourage little school kids by creative ways to save rain water and also keep their hands clean. Students of Thiagarajar college Nature club also went for a rally creating awareness to the public residents of Puliyankulam village by expressing the slogans about Rain Water Harvesting. They also created awareness to the public by explaining the benefits of saving rain water. Students engaged energetically in the awareness program. THIAGARAJAR COLLEGE: MADURAI – 09: TAMIL NADU (Accredited with ‘A’ status by NAAC) NATURE CLUB Report of the Extension Activity held on 23.07.2019 One day extension activity at Thiagarajar College, Madurai district on 23.07.2019 from 2.00 p.m. to 4.00 p.m. The neem seed balls preparation activity focused on increasing green cover environment. This activity involves making of golf ball sized mixture of red soil, seeds and compost. It is an emerging afforestation technique adopted worldwide, most commonly used for ecological restoration. Making and distribution of seed balls is quicker and cost effective method. The composition makes itself sustainable and favorable for germination. This seed balls preparation activity was enthusiastically done by the nature club volunteers from all the departments of our college. They followed the instructions given by the coordinator DR.R.ARUNA. They had prepared seed balls of about 5000.
