Andrew Constance Minister for Transport and Infrastructure MEDIA RELEASE Tuesday, 5 March 2019 ALL NIGHT LONG: DOUBLE THE NUMBER OF SERVICES FOR SUTHERLAND SHIRE AND ST GEORGE Train commuters in the Sutherland Shire and St George regions will receive more late night services under a re-elected NSW Liberals & Nationals Government, Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Andrew Constance announced today. Mr Constance said the T4 Illawarra Line will receive additional services from 10pm, seven days a week, in response to a massive increase in late night travel. “The T4 Line carries more customers in the late night period than any other line on the network. We’re committed to boosting services to prepare for future growth but also to meet the need of our current customers in the Sutherland Shire, Illawarra and St George,” Mr Constance said. The additional late night services will be delivered as part of the next stage of the NSW Government’s $4.3 billion More Trains, More Services program. The additional services to be provided include: Jannali, Oatley, Kirrawee, Gymea, Miranda, Caringbah, Woolooware, Cronulla: two extra services per hour will provide a train every 15 minutes on average, doubling services compared to the current late night frequency on weekdays. Redfern, Sydenham, Wolli Creek, Rockdale, Kogarah, Hurstville, Sutherland: two extra services per hour will provide a turn up and go service for customers every 10 minutes. Member for Heathcote Lee Evans said these new services were absolutely vital to keeping his community moving. “More than 34,000 customer journeys are made on late night services on the T4 Illawarra Line each week. Over the past two years the number of late night journeys on the T4 Illawarra Line has increased by around 15 per cent,” Mr Evans said. Member for Oatley Mark Coure said running more services later in the night will reduce wait times on platforms. “We want customers to get home quickly late at night and when the new services are introduced customers won’t have to wait more than 10 minutes for a T4 train departing the city,” Mr Coure said. Member for Miranda Eleni Petinos condemned NSW Labor for failing the NSW travelling public. “NSW Labor have committed to cutting around 1,500 existing weekly train services if they are elected in March 2019. The last Labor government axed more than 2,000 weekly train services, another blight on a long list of debacles they masterminded during their 16 years of neglect,” Ms Petinos said. Attorney General and Member for Cronulla Mark Speakman welcomed the news and said that only the NSW Liberals and Nationals can be trusted to deliver for Sutherland Shire and St George communities. “This Government has listened to our local community and it’s committing to providing our train customers with the services they need.” The additional services will commence in the early 2020s. The NSW Liberals & Nationals have introduced 36,000 additional public transport services since coming to government in 2011. The NSW Liberals & Nationals have also committed to introducing more than 14,000 extra weekly bus services over the next four years to improve services across Greater Sydney, the Illawarra, Hunter and Central Coast.
