Several pens of heavies over Light - - £120 to a top of £135 from Miss A Cleave of Launcells followed by Messrs WJ & P Wooldridge of Heavy 138.50 121.50 Chollaton who realised £130.20 Rams 148 - 309 DRAFT EWES & RAMS The trade was on fire for the lean and hill type ewes with the overall average of £100.19. Highest average per head seen for many years. Top of the day was £138.50 for a pen of Texel x from FC Bealey of Healand Manor, Torrington. Suffolk x topped at £135.50 from BD Allin of Launcells. Polled Dorset Ewes from Mark Wise of Bude sold at a top of £122. Several pens of mules around £100 at a top of £106 from 3 vendors. Rams topped at £148 for 2 from Rob and Julie Honey of Higher Beer. 86 STORE HOGGS A flying trade, top being £98 from Allan Marshall of Chilsworthy. COUPLES 40 EWES & 69 LAMBS Larger entry of couples met a stronger trade with more buyers in attendance. Overall top call in the baby calf section was the Folk2Folk champion of the day being a 37 day old Blue Bull from Becky Mills of Petersmarland reaching £390 and selling to David Hopper of Virginstow. Other Blues reached £315 (x2) with Jimmy Tucker of Launceston close up at £305 and Messrs Tancock of Kelly Bray at £300. Some wonderful Limousin calves forward today saw Messrs S & M Furse in pole position at £315 whilst the best of a good number of Angus Bulls topped at £172 for Moorview Farming. Charolais Bulls topped at £190 for a very young bull calf from Mike Stone of Pancrasweek with Welsh Blacks at £108 for the Merrett family. In the heifer pens trade was flying high for the best under 42 days old with AT Bayly topping the Blues at £275 with Martin Gorst of Launceston at £260. However, the best heifer trade today came for Limousins with 40 day old Limousin Heifers from D & D Furse of Ashwater hitting £310 going off to its new home near Rock, on the North Cornish coast. Messrs P H Collins Partners saw their best at £260 (x2) with Messrs S & M Furse at £245 and a lovely bunch from Messrs Dilling at £230. Holstein Bulls were a good trade for stronger types with the best to £215 for Richard Webber of Barnstaple whilst the best 40 day Bulls hit £100 from Kevin Parsons of Jacobstowe and a bunch of 5 babies from SR Gilbert & Son of Sheepwash to £90. A smaller entry of Stirks today (26) saw the best Limousins to £460 for Limousins from J & R Pomeroy of Bradworthy with Blues from Richard Webber of Harracott at £382 (x2) whilst Heifer stirks topped at £365 for Whiteley Farm of Bradworthy. Next week’s entries already include 15 Blue & Hereford Skirks from one farm (4mth) and 10 Blue Skirks from Shebbear. Several superb consignments of well bred Continental & native Steers saw several bunches exceed £1200 with a top call of £1240 for a Simmental Steer from Messrs Vooght of Petrockstowe whose other bunch of (4) Steers realised £1215. Now Farm Assured Charolais Steers from Mr J Mckinerin reached £1235. Single suckled Limousins from Messrs Tonkin of Holsworthy topped at £1225 (2) with other groups realizing £1190 (4) and £1135. An annual consignment of single suckled Simmental Steers from Messrs Cornborough Farms reached £1200 for (7) with others racing to £1090 (6). Younger 17-20mth well farmed Continental x Holstein Steers saw a strong trade throughout, many bunches over £900 with Charolais from Messrs Kirk of Petrockstowe to £970 Limousins from the same farm reached £1000. British Blues 18-20mth from Mr B Vickery sold to £955, British Blues from Messrs Bragg of Tavistock £910-£1120. Natives very much in demand this week with a top call of £1130 for a Hereford Steer from Messrs Bryne of Ashwater with others from the same farm £985. Few Aberdeen Angus Steers saw a top call of £935 for a Steer from Mr Wooldridge of Okehampton. An annual consignment of Outlying Pure Bred Devon Steers from Messrs Alford of Bideford rose to £935 (7) with other younger Devons from the same farm at £835. A superb entry of 106 from Messrs Kirk of Ashwater presented singled suckled quality 9-10mth Steers and Heifers. The first pen of Charolais Steers reached £900 with 9-10mth Limousins to £845. Good shapely 9- 10mth Limousin and Charolais Heifers from the same farm saw all 9-10mth Heifers from £700-£710. Again, a big thank you to the Kirk Family. Other single suckled Limousin calves from Mr J Melville of Bradworthy saw his consignment of 15 average £823 rising to £1050 for a cracking 12mth Limousin. A strong trade for forward Heifers this week, most Continentals This week’s winner of the with flesh £900+ topping at £1180 for a superb suckled Limousin from Mr Lark Plant was awarded to B Tonkin of Holsworthy. Holstein Steers saw a similar trade to previous Messrs Vooght of weeks, most 20-22mth wintering Steers £650 with the better type Holstein Petrockstowe for a £700+ to £735 for Messrs Hervin of Umberleigh.
