Economists Group: a Dinner Discussion with Sir Richard Lambert. To

Young(ish) economists group: A dinner discussion with Sir Richard Lambert. To be held on Monday, February 13, 2012, at 6:30 for 7:00pm. At Accenture, 1 Plantation Place, 30 Fenchurch Street, London, EC3M 3BD. With support from Accenture The next meeting of our Young Economists (well, fairly young) group will be the 11th. Given who we have managed to attract so far, our guest speaker will have his work cut out to meet our astonishingly high standards – but I have no doubt that he will pass any test you set him. Richard Lambert is a man of many parts: part journalist (he enjoyed a long career at the Financial Times, editing the Lex column and finally spending a decade as the paper’s editor); part economist (he spent three years as a member of the Bank of England’s MPC); part shill for British industry (as director-general of the CBI for almost five years); part (semi-) civil servant (he wrote an influential report for the DTI on business/university links); part academic (he has been Chancellor of the University of Warwick since 2008); and all-round good guy (trustee of the British Museum, chairman of the Big Society Trust, etc). As my colleague, Jane Fuller (who worked with him for many years at the FT) puts it, “there is nothing you cannot ask him about”. So we are delighted that he has agreed to speak to our group – and we are delighted that Accenture has agreed to host the dinner. The only downside is that seats are limited. So if you (or a colleague) would like to join us for what I can guarantee will be a lively discussion, would you please let us know as soon as possible by emailing [email protected] or by calling the office on 020 7493 0173. Sincerely yours, Andrew Hilton Director CSFI .
