Granite (Building Stone) Quarry of M/s RKP MINERALS & METALS (P) LTD. at Thekkada Village, Nedumangadu Taluk & Thiruvananthapuram District , Extent 0.2416 Ha PRE-FEASIBILTY REPORT 1.0 INTRODUCTION OF THE MINING ACTIVITY Pradeep Kumar.S is proposing an existing Granite (Building Stone) Quarry with Permit at Re-Survey Nos. 112/6 & 113/8 in Thekkada Village, Nedumangadu Taluk, Thiruvananthapuram District, Kerala in an extent area of 0.2416 hectares. The proposed quarry area is privately owned rocky land. The proposed quarry area is located at Thekkada village, 10 km from Pothencode and 35 km from Thiruvananthapuram . The topography of the surrounding permit area is an elevated terrain with quarry land covered with native trees, shrubs, herbs, grass, climbers, bushes etc. The highest elevation of the permit area is 205m MSL and lowest is 145m MSL. As the proposed area is hillock, the drainage of the permit area is towards west direction. No habitants are located in the permit area. The geological resources of G ranite (Building Stone) in mining permit area are estimated to be 79260 MT. In the first three years of plan period tota l 30,000 MT Granite (Building Stone) shall be quarried/mined. Kerala experiences rainfall in duration of 3 to 4 months in a year and that is why the quarry operations will be affected by these rainy days. The average annual rainfall of the district is 1700 mm. The anticipated life of the quarry is 3 years expected. Mobile no: 9747670601 Email: [email protected] 1.3 NEED FOR THE PROJECT AND ITS IMPORTANCE TO THE COUNTRY OR REGION The major essentiality of building stone is based on its extraordinary compressive strength and durability (among the hardest, dimensional & structural stones) and it is having high tolerance towards the vagaries of nature. The quarry paves way of providing material for construction industry which forms a core infrastructural growth component. The employment opportunities are being created in connecting with the quarrying activities and the local people are being employed for the non technical activities under the direction of mining engineers and supervisors. For the quarry operations, more than 20 employees are being deployed which generates ample opportunities for those people directly and indirectly.Besides,CSR activities of the project proponent will bring about improvement in infrastructure, living conditions of local community etc. Applicant will pay royalty for the mineral produced from the mine, direct and indirect taxes will be paid thereby contributing to the regional revenue. The topography of the permit area is hilly terrain with Granite (Building S tone) deposit. The highest elevation of the permit area is 205 m MSL and lowest is 145 m MSL. The topographic / surface plan on 1:1000 scales incorporates all the existing details like topography, surface exposures, structures etc. and is enclosed in the Mining plan. 2.3 PERMITHOLD AREA The quarry site covers the mining area of 0.2416 Ha which is a private rocky land.
