Friends of Jazz Our35th Annual Central PA Jazz Festival , held in various locations from August 27th to 30th, . 5721 Jonestown Road was a huge success. All of the events - the Riverboat Cruise, Jazz Party, Jam Session, Concert at Harrisburg PA 17112 the Gretna Playhouse, and the annual Picnic - were well attended and had amazing . The performance -A NIGHT OF LEGENDS - presentedFreddy Cole’s Quartet , a Executive Director . group that featured drummerJerome Jennings, , renowned Phiadelphia saxophonist Bootsie Sheila Ross Barnes,and bassist Elias Bailey . Eddie Henderson’s Quintet with special guests Billy Hart, Office Manager George Cables, Eric Alexanderand Doug Weiss will closed the show - quite a lineup of jazz stars - there were 500 in the audience for this concert at Mt. Gretna’s Playhouse the largest jazz CPFJ Board of Directors: audience at Gretna in many years! Our gratitude also toPremier Wealth Management ( Robert . Pugliese) for their underwriting grant for this year’s Festival - enabling us to present anpther Jon Abel year of great music. (Youth Committee) . Dr. William Anderson This year’s35th Annual Jazz Party was held in the new River City Blues Club with two bands (Membership) upstairs and two bands downstairs from 7PM till 12:30AM. We thank the management at River Paul Bratcher City, especially Jonas Hair, and his staff for welcoming jazz into their facility - it was great (President - Festival) evening of celebration and music. Oliver Fairley We also really appreciate those who purchased an advertisement or listed their names as a (Youth Committee Chair) Festival Donor in the CPFJ Festival/Fall Concert Series Program. This program was Dr. Paul Haidet distributed at all Festival events and will be passed out at all three Fall Concerts including the (Newsletter) Mary Heltzel huge crowd at the Dauphin County Jazz & Wine Festival. Many of you advertised your (Fund Raising) businesses, sent messages to a friend or loved one, or just offered words of support for the Festival and CPFJ. Mark Hunsberger . (Vice President - & Concessions) OurCPFJ Jam Sessions will continue at the new River City Blues Club on Cameron St. in Amy Walizer Harrisburg - sessions will be onFourth Monday of every month from 7-10 p.m. Gullifty’s has (Treasurer) resumed their Jam Sessions on theSecond Wednesdays . Our Jam Sessions provide a great Tim Warfield atmosphere for musicians to meet and share ideas and it is always entertaining for the listeners. (Music) . Fall Concert Series News: The Spanish Harlem Orchestra concert was a great succes at the Youth Band Director: Friends of Jazz Night at the Dauphin County Jazz and Wine Festival on Sept. 11th. We thank Ron Waters the Dauphin County Commissioners, and the staff at the Dauphin Co. Parks and Recreation . Department for their assistance in making this a major event for us every year - we had over The ViBE 1600 in atttendance at the concert!Terell Stafford will present his Quintet ( Tim Warfield, Steve Rudolph - Editor Bruce Barth, Kenny Washington & Peter Washington) performing music from his new Sheila Ross - Contributing Editor “Brotherlee Love” CD at the Pollock Center in Camp Hill on October 11th and bring his Temple Paul Haidet - Contributing Editor University Jazz Ensemble to open the concert. We will present “An Evening of Stride and . Volunteer Coordinator Ragtime Piano” with soloistFarid Barron at WITF Public Media Center on November 29th. These events show the diversity of music that we strive to bring to Central PA - what a great way Leslie Beamer to close out our 35th year. Our congratulations toAnnie Griggs, our 2015 CPFJ Scholarship winner. Annie is a fine woodwind player and was a member of the CPFJ Youth Band for six years. We wish her good fortune in her music education studies at Shenandoah University in Winchester, VA. Congratulations toPaul Bratcher, our new CPFJ Board President, and Mark Hunsberger, newly elected Board Member.
