SAN JOSE, CA (February 9, 2016) – Broadway San Jose, a Nederlander Presentation, announced last night the six productions that will comprise the lineup for the 2016–17 season – Cameron Mackintosh’s spectacular new production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA (September 15 – October 2, 2016), a brand-new stage production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s classic THE SOUND OF MUSIC (November 8 – 13, 2016), the 2013 Tony Award®-winning Best Musical KINKY BOOTS (January 24 – 29, 2017), the Tony Award®-winning hit musical MATILDA THE MUSICAL (March 7 – 12, 2017), direct from London’s West End, THE BODYGUARD (April 25 – 30, 2017), the award-winning musical based on Lawrence Kasdan’s 1992 Academy Award-nominated film, and the critically acclaimed and award-winning production of Roundabout Theatre Company’s CABARET (June 6 – 11, 2017). In addition, special season add-ons include a limited engagement of the world’s best-loved musical, ANNIE (January 6 – 8, 2017). And, by popular demand, THE BOOK OF MORMON, which played a record breaking two-week run in 2015 returns to San Jose for a limited engagement (July 11 – 23, 2017). Single ticket on-sale dates will be announced at a later date. “The 2016-17 season showcases a diverse and entertaining array of musicals, ranging from acclaimed classics to some of Broadway’s biggest blockbusters,” said Nanci Williams, Broadway San Jose General Manager. “Led by Cameron Mackintosh’s spectacular new production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera, this season has something for every theatrical taste.” Guests at last night’s season launch event at the Center for the Performing Arts were treated to a surprise appearance by THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA cast member Travis Taylor, who performed a rousing rendition of “The Music of the Night” from the acclaimed musical. Season ticket holders receive a significant discount versus regular single ticket prices. Other benefits include preferred seating, ticket exchanges, and special offers. New for the 2016-17 season, season ticket holders will be invited to subscriber events and receptions held throughout the year, as well as access to the Subscriber Lounge at the Center for the Performing Arts before every performance. In addition, every season ticket holder will be assigned a patron representative to assist with any questions or concerns throughout the 2016–17 season. All performances for Broadway San Jose’s 2016–17 season will be held at the 2,700-seat San Jose Center for Performing Arts, a mid-century modern architectural showcase designed by the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation, at the corner of Park Avenue and Almaden Boulevard in downtown San Jose.
