Media release 16 May 2011 Takeaway survey shows Aussies prefer posh nosh An independent consumer survey today revealed Australians prefer their take away with a side order of fancy, with gourmet brand Pizza Capers beating Dominos, Eagle Boys and Pizza Hut when it comes to Australia’s happiest pizza customers. “Our first pizza survey showed Australian consumers don’t mind paying extra for a gourmet experience when it comes to their fast food of choice. This is clear by the fact Pizza Capers and Crust took out first and second prize respectively for most satisfied pizza customers,” said CANSTAR CANNEX’s Head of Research Steve Mickenbecker. “The survey also showed how health-conscious many Australians are, with 1 in 3 surveyed choosing the healthier options on offer by the fast food chains and feeling guilty after eating takeaway food. Australians are clearly still feeling the hangover of the GFC and the financial pressure of expected interest rate rises, with only 1 in 10 surveyed ordering take away more than five times a week and spending more than $100 a week on takeaway food.” Brisbane-based Pizza Capers proved to be the clear winner in the eyes of its customers, taking out the prize for most satisfied customers in the categories of overall satisfaction, taste, service and other menu options. Eagle Boys topped the charts for price, and Eagle Boys and Dominos tied first in the category of available deals. Most common pizza gripes • Poor service – specifically mistakes with the order and unfriendly staff • Location of take away outlet too far from home • Poor quality of pizza ingredients and not enough topping • Excessive delivery fees and prices of extra toppings. Canstar Blue, a new initiative of CANSTAR CANNEX, commissions Colmar Brunton to survey 2,500 Australian consumers across a range of categories every few months to measure and track customer satisfaction. Pizza Capers today received the Most Satisfied Customers Award for Pizza. The outcomes reported are the results from those who had bought pizza in the last 12 months years within the survey group. “We launched Canstar Blue to give Australians a free online resource to help them with their key purchasing decisions by making it simple for them to learn from the experiences of other consumers. It is essentially a guide to product excellence as voted by customers,” Mr Mickenbecker said. The independent survey was undertaken in conjunction with professional market researchers, Colmar Brunton. The full Canstar Blue results are available at www.canstarblue.com.au. Other key survey findings • Females are more satisfied with their pizza brand overall than males. • Victorians are more satisfied with their pizza brand than residents in any other State or Territory. • Baby boomers lived up to their optimistic reputation, with the study showing they are the happiest generation with their pizza brand.
