Colin Campbell Cooper: Landmark March 1 - April 29, 2018

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Sullivan Goss February, 2018 AN AMERICAN GALLERY 11 East Anapamu Street Santa Barbara, CA 93101 (805) 730-1460 COLIN CAMPBELL COOPER: LANDMARK MARCH 1 - APRIL 29, 2018 SANTA BARBARA, CA - Sullivan Goss is pleased to announce an exhibition of work by celebrated American Impressionist, Colin Campbell Cooper (1856-1937). Cooper was an incessant world traveler during his lifetime and those travels were reflected in his paintings. The views in this exhibition chronicle the travels of an artist whose sense of adventure took him from famous and exotic landmarks to quiet pastoral valleys and everywhere in between. Often painted on site, the spontaneity of the artists hand as well as his ability to capture the fleeting moments of light and impressions of time are what make him one of the most admired American Impressionists. The paintings in this show demonstrate why Cooper work can be seen in so many national museums, and is sought after by collectors from coast to coast. Cooper was born in Philadelphia in 1856 and moved to Santa Barbara in 1921. He studied with Thomas Eakins at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts as well as the Academie Julian in Paris. He was elected as a member of the National Academy of Design in 1912. Colin Campbell Cooper died in Santa Barbara, CA in 1937. His work can be found in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, NY, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Philadelphia, PA, The White House, Washington, D.C., Santa Barbara Museum of Art, Santa Barbara, CA, Crocker Museum, Sacramento, CA, among many others.
